The definitive Conference & Course for 2024. We all have patients in our practice who are not suitable for surgery for a variety of reasons and all unfortunately are often let down by being consigned to prescription drugs until they can’t cope anymore. There are potential alternatives available to help these patients live a more manageable and comfortable life with a strong and ever growing evidence base. However, like most tools knowing when to do something and when not to is key. When you decide to act it is not just choosing the correct biomedicine that matters but then also the nuances to achieve success this includes many things: - Type of the intervention - Dose of the intervention - US or image guidance - Preparation of your patient and the substrate for optimal results (prehab) - post procedure care (rehab/outcome optimisation) Without a sight of the whole patient journey you do a half-job and a disservice to your patients and yourself. Come and learn from the best in the business in London this year 🙌🏼💪🏼🧐 https://lnkd.in/eWHyQxRV

I had the honor of presenting and winning the VIB Scientist award at the VIB seminar in April for my PhD research on a duo drug-ligand combination. This innovative approach targets a nuclear receptor that controls energy metabolism, effectively halting and reversing the progression of metabolic-associated fatty liver disease (MASLD) to liver cancer (HCC). Additionally, my blog published on @Biovox simply higlights into the causes of MASLD, its progression to cancer, gender differences, and the critical need for gender-based pharmacotherapy. https://lnkd.in/eZq3sdMd
🩺 Fatty liver disease is a growing global concern, affecting 30% of people worldwide. But did you know this complex disease disproportionately impacts men and women? https://lnkd.in/eZq3sdMd Our VIB-UGent Center for Medical Biotechnology PhD student, Milton Antwi, explores the reasons behind this and the promise of gender-personalized medicine. 🥇Milton also won our Scientist on Stage award during the #VIBSeminar for his great presentation on the topic!

𝐀 𝐍𝐞𝐰 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐡 𝐒𝐭𝐮𝐝𝐲 𝐄𝐯𝐚𝐥𝐮𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐌𝐞𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐬𝐦 𝐨𝐟 𝐀𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐨𝐟 𝐅𝐑𝐀𝐌𝐄 𝐄𝐱𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐒𝐮𝐩𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐕𝐞𝐢𝐧 𝐆𝐫𝐚𝐟𝐭𝐬 A group of investigators led by Jaroslav Chlupac from the Institute for Clinical and Experimental Medicine (IKEM) Hospital, Czech Republic, published excellent research on the mechanism of action of FRAME external support. The study compared FRAME-supported autologous internal jugular vein grafts to unsupported vein grafts in a porcine carotid artery interposition model. At a 1-month follow-up, 100% of FRAME-supported grafts were patent, compared to 43% for the controls. FRAME-supported vein grafts also showed significantly fewer areas of stenosis and higher blood flow rates at explantation compared to the controls. 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐜𝐥𝐮𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧: "In our porcine model, the external mesh FRAME improved the patency of vein-to-carotid artery grafts and protected them from stenosis, particularly in the mid regions. The mid-graft neo-intimal hyperplasia was two-fold thinner in the meshed grafts than in the controls." https://lnkd.in/ghh57FZh CARDION #ExternalSupport #InnovationInHealthcare

🌟Excited to Share Our Latest Publication on hATTR Study (TRAM)! 🌟 I'm thrilled to announce the release of our latest research findings in the hATTR TRAM study, which is now published in the Journal of Clinical Medicine. This study marks an important step forward in understanding hereditary transthyretin-related amyloidosis (hATTR), as we present baseline data from the first 3,167 participants in the TRAMmoniTTR study. Our research provides key insights into the clinical and genetic characteristics of patients with suspected hATTR, aiming to improve the diagnosis and management of this rare and challenging condition. 🔗 Read the full publication here 📄 Download the PDF version here A huge Thank you to my colleagues and all contributors who made this work possible. Together, we are one step closer to providing better care and treatment for patients with hATTR. #hATTR #TRAMStudy #TransthyretinAmyloidosis #ClinicalResearch #RareDiseases #MedicalResearch #HealthcareInnovation

【#HotTrend: Scientists conduct world's first transplant of pig liver into human patient👨🏻⚕️】 According to Air Force Medical University, a research team successfully transplanted a gene-edited pig liver into a brain-dead patient to mimic the treatment of liver failure patients🩺. This is the world's first case of pig liver xenotransplantation, demonstrating the potential for gene-edited pig livers to replace human livers in the future.
