Recently, I led an influencer marketing campaign for our company with an influencer boasting over 4 million subscribers. On paper, this seemed like a match made in heaven, but the results were far from what we expected. Even though the influencer had a huge following, his audience didn’t connect with him. It became clear that a substantial following doesn't always equate to effective influence. This particular influencer had rapidly built his subscriber base, resulting in an audience that was not yet fully engaged or connected with him. This taught me a critical lesson in influencer marketing: it's not just about the numbers. An influencer must have a genuine connection with the audience. Engagement, trust, and authenticity are key factors that drive a successful campaign. For those venturing into influencer marketing, remember to look beyond the follower count.
