We’re thrilled to welcome Dr. Iris Dror to MIGAL as the head of our new research group focused on gene expression control! After spending nearly a decade at UCLA as part of Professor Katrin Plath’s lab, Dr. Dror has returned to Israel with an impressive background in epigenetics, studying the mechanisms that control cell differentiation and gene expression. Her groundbreaking work includes uncovering how X-chromosome gene expression is regulated and silenced, offering insights into the complex processes that influence cell fate. 🧬 Dr. Dror’s journey began with a BSc. in Biology, where she discovered her passion using computational methods to unravel biological questions. She earned her PhD under the mentorship of Prof. Yael Mandel Guttfreund at the Technion and later refined her expertise in Los Angeles, conducting research at both USC and UCLA. Now, Dr. Dror has returned to her roots – to Israel and to the north – bringing her wealth of knowledge and innovative ideas to MIGAL. Her new lab will dive into how transcription factors, non-coding RNAs like XIST, and chromatin states regulate gene expression in human and mouse cells. The goal? To unlock the genetic mechanisms behind development and cellular reprogramming. This pioneering work will involve large-scale genomic techniques and promises to expand our understanding of gene regulation. Iris shared that her decision to return home was solidified by recent events, recognizing her deep connection to family and community here in Israel. She’s excited to build her team at MIGAL and is currently looking for passionate students or postdocs to join her. Please join us in welcoming Dr. Iris Dror to MIGAL – we’re eager to see all that her expertise and creativity will bring to the global research community!
Welcome and good luck!
