In this example, we look at the temperature and melt pool shape development during pulsed laser welding of a T-joint. Due to high temperature in the center of the laser beam, the metal evaporates and applies a recoil force on the free surface, which helps the laser radiation to penetrate deeper. The recoil pressure, which increases periodically, drives the flow inside the melt pool that results in characteristic ripples on the seam surface. #flow3d #welding #flow3dweld #cfdsimulation

Check out these little holes in this FCAW-S (Self Shieled Flux Core Wire) weld. How does this happen in a shelf shieled process? Answer: fluctuations in CTWD (contact tip to work distance) can cause an entrapment of gases produced by the process resulting in these little holes.
