Our team is thrilled to share the latest findings published in the Journal of Aging Research and Healthcare. 📚 🔍 Title: Venous Thromboembolism after Orthopaedic Surgery – How Long is the Patient at Risk? 📝 Summary: This groundbreaking study delves into the risk of venous thromboembolism (VTE) post-orthopaedic surgery, shedding light on crucial insights. Researchers examined patients who experienced VTE within one year after surgery, uncovering significant findings. 🏥 Key Points: Risk Factors Identified: Obesity, personal/family history of DVT, cardiovascular disease, and lower limb arthroplasty were confirmed as pre-established risk factors. Extended Risk Period: Patients with known risk factors may remain susceptible to VTE for a longer duration than previously thought, even with post-operative thromboprophylaxis. Call for Further Investigation: The study suggests the need for additional research to determine if enhanced VTE prophylaxis is warranted for this population. 📖 Dive deeper into the study for a comprehensive understanding: https://lnkd.in/g22FU-5D Join the conversation and stay informed about the latest advancements in healthcare research! 💡 #MedicalResearch #VTE #OrthopaedicSurgery #HealthcareScience

Have you seen the latest publication in the Journal of Clinical Medicine (JCM) MDPI by our esteemed #ISSLS members Akinobu Suzuki, Shinji Takahashi, and Hiroaki Nakamura? Their groundbreaking study aimed to evaluate the functional outcomes and investigate the #RiskFactors for poor outcomes after palliative surgery for #spinal #metastases. This is the first study to demonstrate that hemoglobin levels are associated with functional recovery after surgery for spinal metastases. Considering the fundamental need to improve postoperative outcomes in already compromised patients undergoing surgery for spinal metastases, it is essential to recognize specific factors that could affect recovery trajectories following surgery. Key findings: 1️⃣ A lower Tokuhashi score and hemoglobin level were significantly associated with poor outcomes 2️⃣ The poor outcome group showed a significantly lower general condition and more extraspinal and spinal bone metastases 3️⃣ A lower general condition, a higher number of extraspinal bone metastases, a higher number of metastases in the vertebral body, and metastases to the major internal organs were independent factors associated with poor outcomes. Find their full body of work here 🔗 https://lnkd.in/gFKX5Nwf to read more! This publication is a testament to the incredible work being done by #ISSLS members. Our society is committed to advancing lumbar spine research and fostering a collaborative environment for innovation. #TodaysAdvice There is enormous potential for biologic-based therapies in orthopaedics, plastic surgery, advanced wound care, aesthetics, neurology and endocrinology. Inventor, investigator and company focus begins by defining the unmet clinical need. Said another way, try to avoid being a technology looking for a problem to solve. The “therapy of choice” should be selected upon satisfying the least rigorous, indication-specific performance criteria. With success achieved here, you can move on to the more complex clinical challenges and technical approaches. BCVG is here to help. Why is regenerative medicine in orthopaedics gaining popularity? Regenerative medicine in orthopaedic surgery aims to repair damaged tissues like bone and cartilage using biological or synthetic scaffolds, mesenchymal stem cells, and growth factors. Minimally invasive techniques, such as percutaneous injections, are at the forefront of these advancements and can be appealing alternatives, in an outpatient setting, to traditional surgery or pain management. Studies have identified adipose tissue as a rich source of adult mesenchymal stem cells. Our solution in this field is the Lipo-Med System, which harvests and purifies adipose tissue for therapeutic use. Its closed-loop process re-injects purified tissue during the same surgery, using a semipermeable filtration membrane to remove waste without enzymes or chemicals, minimizing cell trauma and inflammation.
