My mentor Carl Seville impressed upon me that you "Only get what you inspect when you inspect." One of the homeowners' misperceptions is that they expect a code-built house inspected by government officials to be perfect with no issues. This is not possible given the time constraints they have on them. This is why 3rd party inspections are critical and why we at SawHorse, Inc. prefer green building certifications. Inspections and testing are part of that process. Most builders choose not to get certified and prefer the "trust me bro!" branding. I know Brett Little is a fan of green certifications and testing, as he talks about it all the time and shares stories about his house as well. Mike Holmes is dealing with a builder who used his "Holmes Approved Homes" brand without using the inspection process. This builder benefited from the brand without going through the quality control process. This is like stating that a home is built to "Passive House Standards" without going through the inspection process. It is not a #passivehouse without the approval, testing, and inspections. I got a call last week from an editor or a building magazine asking for help on the house they just purchased. It came with several issues due to poor inspections and bad craftsmanship. They asked what they could do now since it is still under warranty and how this could have been avoided. 1. Inspect at the different construction phases as the house is being built. You can't see all the mistakes behind the walls if you wait until the home is finished. 2. If you are buying a new or used home- hire an inspector who is inspecting for general code compliance and home performance. This means they also need to bring a blower door and infrared camera to the inspection. What are your thoughts on how we can improve the inspection process and make buildings better? https://lnkd.in/e3SVA9k3

Mike Coday made a post today asking “If the early bird gets the worm, what does the early worm get?🐛” this made me reflect on a past experience in business and translate that to what I do today. In the roofing industry, timing is everything ⏱️ just like the early bird gets the worm, those who recognize and act on trends early can reap significant rewards. DaVinci Roofscapes, a Westlake Company is a prime example of this. With its rising popularity due to exceptional durability, low maintenance, and aesthetic versatility, contractors who adopt and promote DaVinci early can position themselves ahead of the curve. As homeowners and builders seek long-term, high-quality solutions, getting in front of this demand with DaVinci’s product offerings can establish you as a leader in premium roofing. Just like in business, it’s not about simply being first; it’s about understanding the market, staying prepared, and leveraging superior products at the right time to ensure you’re not just early, but effective in capturing opportunities. The increasing preference for DaVinci’s products signals a clear shift toward quality and sustainability, and those ready to ride that wave stand to benefit greatly.

This is my incredibly well received global real estate / Orange County real estate presentation given a few weeks ago at Ellermeyer Connect forum. It is not what many people want to hear, but it's an honest, eye opening view of what's happening. The Waiting for prices or interest rates to fall is a bad plan for buyers. It's only going to worsen. I hope you'll give it a listen. It's my mission to spread the truth in an environment riddled with a lot of nonsensical noise. There's a lot of noise about housing and what's coming. Most of it, in my opinion, is inaccurate. I welcome your insights. #realestate #housing #marketanalysis If you'd like to read my past and future reports, that's easy to do. Visit WendyHooperRoss@Substack.com and you'll find them all there. We connect every decision we make to our values. We ask ourselves: ⮕ Does this advocate for the client first? We’re not about steering clients in a direction that is not in their best interest. Lining our pockets (or someone else’s) is not our game. ⮕ Is there a chance that this will cause issues down the road? We don’t make empty promises and will openly communicate all risks associated with every decision. There is no gatekeeping or ulterior motive. ⮕ Have we communicated clearly with our client, team, and collaborators? It’s important to protect our partnerships with everyone involved. Clear lines of communication creates trustworthy and long-lasting relationships. Our values are what have kept Donatelli Builders in business for over 35 years — they’re our non-negotiables, our North Star, guiding us to the right partnerships.
