The fourth reason why companies choose to use Enhesa Sustainable Chemistry is to comply with international reporting and sustainability requirements. A couple we frequently hear include the EU’s Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD), and the EU Taxonomy (under the European Green Deal). CSRD requires companies to report on the environmental impact of chemicals, which requires more insights into the hazards across each company. EU Taxonomy allows companies to share a common definition of economic activities that can be considered environmentally sustainable, while aiming to eliminate green washing. Companies are being held more accountable for their sustainability progress each year, so many lean on our team for support. Using our helpful dashboards that provide list screening and chemical hazard assessment data across 23 endpoints, our clients can easily track progress on initiatives. The plenary session of the European Parliament in April 2024 is *the* moment for many sustainability-themed legislative initiatives. ❔ During the past 4 years, a wave of regulatory initiatives has surged, encompassing most areas of sustainability and ESG. The ESG Super Spring has brought a series of legislative finalizations that are steering the EU towards a (legally?) sustainable future. Here's a brief overview of selected major initiatives to keep on the radar this week: 📗 Ecodesign Regulation: Extends Ecodesign requirements to almost all products, with a special focus on i.a the textile industry. 📗 Right to Repair (R2R) Directive: Aims to make repairs more cost-effective and accessible, promoting sustainable business models. 📗 Forced Labour Regulation: Prohibits products made using forced labor from the EU market, with immediate effect post-transition period. 📗 Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR): Sets ambitious packaging reduction targets to encourage reuse, refill, and recycling practices. 📗 Regulation on Carbon Removals and Carbon Farming: Specifies carbon storage eligible projects. 📗 Revision of Waste Shipment rules: Expands objectives to include climate neutrality and the achievement of the circular economy and zero pollution. 📗 Nature Restoration: Sets binding restoration targets for specific habitats and species. (Has it been finally dropped from EP plenary week agenda?) 📗 Revision of certain rules of Waste Framework Directive: Focuses on textile waste management and food waste minimizing targets. 📗 Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD): Establishes a corporate due diligence duty. 🔴 plus 📗 Green Claims Directive: Awaiting discussion post-European elections, this directive will provide a detailed framework for environmental claims in commercial practices. 👉 Stay tuned for a follow-up on the complete analysed list of all items under ESG #sustainability #esg #esgsuperspring #csddd #PPWR #FLR #ecodesing #sustainabilitylaw

Excellent insight from David Hart
Many companies may mistakenly believe the EU’s Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive’s (CSRD) Chemical Pollution requirements do not apply to them. However, the new disclosures cover both the direct and indirect use, through raw materials, of chemicals and minerals. Companies must act now to get ready since chemical pollution poses an equal, if not higher, risk than other sustainability topics. Our article “CSRD’s Chemical Pollution requirements are taking companies off-guard” identifies and explores eight steps companies must take to prepare: - Build and evolve an implementation plan - Undertake CSRD-aligned sampling and measurements - Deploy experts to develop mass balance calculations - Leverage existing company- and external databases for safety data sheets - Identify and use industry-specific public data - Create a sampling and testing plan to fill in gaps - Develop calculation methodologies for chemical emissions to air, water, and soil - Create an overall data management plan with strong governance and internal controls Access it here: https://lnkd.in/gJmnTrse #CSRD #Chemicalpollution #COP16 Ramesh Narasimhan Susan Angyal, Linda-Jean Cockcroft
