Community engagement and youth mentorship are close to my heart because they empower young people to reach their full potential while strengthening the communities they are part of. Through community engagement, we can address key issues together—like mental health, education, and social well-being—by fostering dialogue, shared responsibility, and a collective vision for change. Working directly with young people, I’m reminded of their energy, curiosity, and resilience. I love being part of their journey, sharing knowledge and experiences to help them build confidence, develop essential skills, and find a sense of purpose. Youth mentorship and guidance are about more than imparting knowledge; they’re about nurturing the leaders of tomorrow. For me, nothing is more fulfilling than watching them grow, overcome challenges, and become agents of positive change in their communities. As an educationist, Yesterday i was previledged to attend an insightful meeting focused on improving the secondary school planning process. We explored key gaps, including limited stakeholder participation, the need for long-term strategic visioning, and the importance of aligning plans with measurable learning outcomes. One major takeaway was the role of a comprehensive Secondary School Improvement Plan (SSIP) in fostering a collaborative and inclusive approach to school development. By integrating clear objectives, resource mobilization strategies, and community engagement, SSIPs can ensure that every action taken contributes to enhancing learning outcomes for all students. This discussion deepened my understanding of how governance and professional platforms, coupled with good leadership, drive successful school planning and implementation. It's inspiring to see how these frameworks can create an environment where schools thrive and students reach their full potential.

"A change in mindset leads to a change in practice, which then leads to better outcomes." Yesterday, I was able to attend the 2024 Wisconsin Community Schools Conference in Sun Prairie. It was a great day of learning, connecting, and refueling my fire for supporting our students and families on the Northside of La Crosse. The phrase above from the opening plenary especially stuck out to me, professionally and personally. How can each of us change our mindset to help achieve better outcomes? How can we shift our mindset to be the best versions of ourself? How can we help lead others in changing their mindset to help produce better outcomes for the people we serve?

In my work as a Community School Coordinator, I've learned that partnership development MUST align with strategic goals. For me, here are a few questions I ask myself: -How will a new partnership impact our Mission? -In what ways do their values align with our vision? -What do they value and how might our partnership align with their goals and mission? -How does the new partnership celebrate diversity and how will it engage with our diverse community? -What tools or measures will we use to determine their impact upon achieving our goals? Partnerships need to understand how they fit within our learning environments. More to come as I continue writing the finishing touches on the book! PPI 65: Community Leadership & Community Outreach My name is Zora Williams. I'm a high school #student at Oakland School for the Arts. I'm from #California in the U.S. And I'm currently studying classical piano, but I want to go to #college for international relations. So what does living a good life mean to you?  To me, as a student and someone who's still pretty young (and thank goodness doesn't have too many responsibilities!), just having a healthy #balance of the responsibilities I do have and the things I enjoy. So, those are like quality time with my #friends, going to the movies, being able to make the most of my youth and freedom while I still can. And what intentional activity has had the greatest impact in your life?  Off the top of my head (and only because this is based on recent news I just got, this might seem a little trivial), I would say running for student government, and I'll explain - since I was in kindergarten (in #kindergarten I was #homeschooled) my biggest #dream was, “I want to be student #president when I'm in 12th grade”. But my family has moved around a lot, so I've had to restart, it's about how many friends you have. So you have to restart that whole process of befriending the whole school and over the course of the six years, I guess, that I've been doing that, it has kind of forced me to make more friends and be more active in the various communities that I've been a part of. And I think that even though the end goal was student #government, I have achieved a lot more along the way. And what about the community? So what intentional activity do you think is the biggest difference in your community?  In the same vein, I guess, hopefully student government. I just got news that I won the #election so I reached out just yesterday. So my first grade dream is completed! I'm hoping to use that influence to do something with that and reach out to my broader community and my #school community and my classmates.
