Mike Van Pamelen’s Post

Those who know me, know I have a strong opinion regarding conferences. Being a big fan isn’t typically one of them. However, I do cherish the exceptions, and this week at #theAISummit has been a positive one. The question is, what made it different for us at Kentivo? First, let’s look at the results, as they are what truly matter. We met numerous new people, leading to follow-ups for potential partnerships, AI consultancy, or simply connecting them to others in our network. We combined the event with reconnecting with existing relations and clients, some of whom we hadn’t met in person before and others we hadn’t seen in over five years. The (re)connection was invaluable. The presenters’ content gave us interesting take-aways, new insights, and confirmations from AI peers that our vision and strategy are well aligned. (More on this in a future AI-focused post.) Reflecting on what set this conference apart from others we’ve attended or sponsored in the past, several factors come to mind: 1) The conference had an excellent level of participation with AI peers and companies orientating themselves seriously on A.I. from around the world. 2) We weren’t there alone as a small company but as part of a group of companies in the field, supported by the Dutch government. 3) The opportunity to engage in meaningful, high-quality discussions that directly align with our interests and goals. These factors alone didn’t make the event a success, but they certainly set the stage for it. I keep my skepticism but to conclude: creating an environment for meaningful connections, providing high-quality content, and having strong support networks are crucial in turning a conference into a truly valuable experience. Lieke Conijn, Celeste Flores Uijtewaal and Hannah Verhage, it was serendipity that we stumbled upon this opportunity through an Netherlands Enterprise Agency newsletter. We greatly respect how the Dutch government supports not only large corporations but also companies like @Kentivo.
