Those who know me, know I have a strong opinion regarding conferences. Being a big fan isn’t typically one of them. However, I do cherish the exceptions, and this week at #theAISummit has been a positive one. The question is, what made it different for us at Kentivo? First, let’s look at the results, as they are what truly matter. We met numerous new people, leading to follow-ups for potential partnerships, AI consultancy, or simply connecting them to others in our network. We combined the event with reconnecting with existing relations and clients, some of whom we hadn’t met in person before and others we hadn’t seen in over five years. The (re)connection was invaluable. The presenters’ content gave us interesting take-aways, new insights, and confirmations from AI peers that our vision and strategy are well aligned. (More on this in a future AI-focused post.) Reflecting on what set this conference apart from others we’ve attended or sponsored in the past, several factors come to mind: 1) The conference had an excellent level of participation with AI peers and companies orientating themselves seriously on A.I. from around the world. 2) We weren’t there alone as a small company but as part of a group of companies in the field, supported by the Dutch government. 3) The opportunity to engage in meaningful, high-quality discussions that directly align with our interests and goals. These factors alone didn’t make the event a success, but they certainly set the stage for it. I keep my skepticism but to conclude: creating an environment for meaningful connections, providing high-quality content, and having strong support networks are crucial in turning a conference into a truly valuable experience. Lieke Conijn, Celeste Flores Uijtewaal and Hannah Verhage, it was serendipity that we stumbled upon this opportunity through an Netherlands Enterprise Agency newsletter. We greatly respect how the Dutch government supports not only large corporations but also companies like @Kentivo.

We just wrapped up a week at the #EsriUC2024 - the world’s largest #GIS conference with 20,000 participants! 🌎 I’ve attended quite a few conferences over the years, and always find them incredibly rewarding. Lots of new #connections, #insights, and stronger relationships with existing partners & clients. However, I’ve heard some people find conferences wasteful/ draining… Here are a few things I do that can help: 1) Sign up for the right conference! ✔️ Kind of obvious, but this can be hard to determine.. To know which gives good ROI and doesn’t waste time, I try to ask around to see who’s participated before for their review. I also check the topics, exhibitors, and speakers to make sure they’re relevant and define the #goal of going clearly. 2) Make a plan! 📝 I try to have at least one key thing during the conference; a speaking slot, key session, or important meeting. This ensures there is at least one worthwhile take-away from the conference. This time, we had a few key meetings and a booth. 3) Staying #healthy! 🌱 This is so important to maintain the energy for the oftentimes intense schedules. Yesterday, I went for a long run between the conference and evening plans, which felt great! It definitely takes a bit of extra effort to make sure to fit in workouts and choose healthy meals. I also try to avoid alcohol. 4) Make meaningful connections! 🤝 Conferences are so much about the people you meet, and just talking about business is not a way to build relationships. Plus it can get boring. It’s a lot more interesting to learn something about the other person and have a more memorable conversation. I’m feeling #energized and #inspired with many new ideas from this week! 💡 👇 Feel free to share your helpful conference tips below

🚀 With the start of the conference season, the Tara Team is ready to attend the ones that matter as sponsors and/or attendees, with our sharp pen. So let’s start talking about an always-controversial topic on LinkedIn: ❓Sponsors at conferences: selling speeches, pressuring, etc. Would it be better to have conferences without sponsors? But is that really the truth? Let’s face it, I'm not a fan of speakers who only talk on stage about how good their company is, and here it's up to the organisers to prevent that. But let’s look at it from a different angle. 🔍 As an organiser: If you can't get sponsors, you'll be forced to charge attendees much higher prices. Depending on the country, even small conference rooms cost a fortune. Speakers who are happy to present with their company logo will no longer be able to, so you'll have people doing anything to get noticed personally! it will be basically just a demonstration of the human ego. 🔍 As a sponsor: If I pay, there must be some return, or I will attend other conferences. It’s OK to avoid selling speeches, but I have to be visible somewhere. Sponsoring a conference where I don't even get 5 minutes of visibility is just a waste of money. Of course, we count on participants stopping by our booth, but often they’ll just take gadgets and ask: “So, what do you do?” 🔍 As an attendee: Without sponsors, tickets will cost a lot more. At that point, I might choose other conferences or opt for one of the billions of online podcasts. I attend conferences to find suppliers for the companies we consult. Even when I see the same sponsors, I like to know what's new, and whether they are adapting to trends like AI, etc. Personally, I enjoy hearing from sponsors and speakers about their company’s successes because, in the end, we can learn from anyone. #vacationrentals #directbookings #TaraHomeConsulting Cristiana Carpini Marco CANGEMI Arianna Tomelleri Marlena Prospato Elyse Adjobi Alen Méaulle Sabrina PIANEZZI Carlo Nalbone Alejandro C.
