It's becoming a trend. Nowadays, every transaction seems to have a prompt for a tip. Just recently, during a visit to my favorite ski resort, I grabbed some self-serve food options. As expected, they were already a tad on the pricey side. However, as I swiped my credit card, it prompted me to add a tip. Curious, I asked the clerk who would benefit from this additional amount. To my surprise, she mentioned it would be split among the staff. But then I couldn't help but wonder, shouldn't the exorbitant prices already cover fair compensation for these hardworking employees? Now, it appears that we in the lodging industry are getting more involved in pushing the tipping practice. IHG Hotels & Resorts recently announced the integration of various digital tipping providers into their payment systems. I’m talking about a growing trend among OTAs and wholesalers utilising pricing tools that automatically cancel and rebook reservations at lower prices. This practice highlights the importance of adjusting pricing strategies. 🧠 Here's how it works: → A wholesaler books a room for future guests → Their system monitors hotel prices daily → If prices drop significantly, the system automatically rebooks at the lower rate, potentially impacting hotel revenue. We see our customers using Promotions to drive traffic to ancillary outlets like F&B, Spa and Activities. For hotel groups with multiple properties, we see customers leveraging Promotions to promote reservations across the portfolio, as well as fill "need dates".
