Ever thought about how much simpler life would be without stacks of paperwork? Nonprofit hospitals are supposed to help low-income patients avoid debt, but the application process is a mess. Imagine if the IRS stepped in to streamline income verification and informed patients they won't get a bill right at the point of care. We could even cancel existing debt in a way that supports hospitals and improves health outcomes. Wouldn't that be a game-changer? Requiring 6 months notice before closing a service line I understand, but fining an nonprofit hospital up to $60,000 I do not. In my experience hospitals will do everything possible to keep services lines availble. They will only close when all options to provide sustainable quality care are not possible. They are thoughtful and try to do the right thing. It is hard,if not impossible, to delver quality care if you do not have the volume to apply your trade. are you really a hospital if the average number of patients is less than 3? If there are only 30 new births per year would that be where you want your child to be born? How does the staff learn? Can you regulate doing the right thing? https://lnkd.in/gjJ2kkXP

Last week marked an important milestone for HBA Support as we submitted our response to the Government’s NHS 10 Year Plan Consultation. This is significant step for our charity. Our response is robust and clearly identifies the policy issues facing our community through highlighting care gaps, critical research needs, as well as shining a light on own data driven arguments for better care, powered by our own research and analysis. This is a first for us and we’re pleased with our response to this major Government consultation.  We're advocating for more research and crucial changes to improve and personalise care for families affected by hereditary brain aneurysms. No Government has done this before and we’re calling on this one to show leadership and provide better care and support world-leading research. It’s an important opportunity to raise awareness drive much-needed change. We’re looking forward to continuing this conversation with the Government and NHS colleagues. In the absence of federal laws to address increased violence against healthcare workers, most state legislatures have taken up the cause on their own. 💜 Borrowed this graphic from Mike Sherman's post and wanted to share it in relation to the work of our Baylor Scott & White Health Palliative Care Child Life Specialists. All of the info on this graphic is spot-on. The statement, "We need to change the narrative that they're too little to understand," is something we hear from parents all the time. Our team guides parents through really difficult conversations that need to be had, with their littles. They may need to tell a child that their very special adult: -has a serious medical condition -was in a terrible accident -was violently harmed by someone else -was so violently harmed by someone else that they died -will be released from life-sustaining treatment or organ-sustaining treatment -is donating their organs to help others, even though they aren't able to live -hurt themself so badly that they died When there are multiple children in the family, no matter the age of the youngest, the adults tend to say, 'they are too young to understand' and/or 'they are too young to hear this information'. When there is only one child, it is still common for them to be concerned that their child is too young, but it is more common that we hear, 'they are so smart for their age'. The fact is that NO CHILD, regardless of their age, should HAVE to hear this information. But when it applies to them, we owe it to them to provide that information truthfully, and in a way they can understand. When a trusted adult shares difficult information openly and honestly, and in a developmentally appropriate way, children will be more likely to come to them with questions, concerns or worries, instead of searching the internet or talking only to their peers, for more insight. If you need to have this type of difficult conversation with a child in your life, please understand that we realize this is a really hard conversation to have. Seek support and guidance from a professional, i.e., a certified child life specialist, licensed professional counselor. But please don't overlook the importance of sharing this information with young children. It can make a huge impact on the way they cope now and in the future.

Nurses’ critical role in health care is undisputed as they provide compassionate care and support to patients. According to Gallup’s annual Honesty & Ethics poll of 23 professions across the United States, nursing remains the most trusted profession. Therefore, it should come as no surprise that nurses play an important role in philanthropy. The compassionate care they provide undoubtedly sparks gratitude in patients and families, unleashing their desire to express thanks by sharing stories and even making a gift. When nurses grasp their role in receiving patient gratitude and assisting patients in expressing it meaningfully, they become one of philanthropy’s most valuable allies for transformative impact.
