Question: Can you write every line of code, launch a startup in under 2 months, with little to no money, and turn it into a Billion dollar company? Years ago, I was walking through Big Sur California with my friend Paul. We admittedly went on the wrong path, and sat down at a dead end on a big boulder. While we were sitting, this group of 4 guys walk by, led to the same dead end. The one at the front put his hands out pointing to the others where to go. While we were watching all this, Paul whispered: "That's Sam Altman!" I whispered back: "Who's Sam Altman?" Paul explained he'd just replaced the last guy, Paul Graham (whom I really liked)! A week later, we were getting a tour of #YC #Ycombinator in #mountainview. It was awesome watching the startups give mock demos of their products. Sam was reeming out this kid for his lack of confidence. Which I found pretty funny. Paul and I left that day pretty stoked at what we accomplished (literally nothing). 🌟 First Week Update at Headstarter AI 🌟 I want to start this post with something Nabeel Alamgir🦄 said: "You should not spend too much time on things that are not going to work. You have to spend all your time when people are opting in." It’s been a week since I started my Fellowship at Headstarter AI, and it has been everything I expected and more. This is exactly how I wanted to spend my summer: growing my skillset, building projects, and networking. Today, we had the Our Pathways to Tech event, hosted by Yasin Ehsan 🚀. We heard from some amazing industry leaders who shared their stories and insights, giving me a lot to think about as I continue my journey in tech. The key speakers included: Dustin Beadle, Director at Lattice and former Director at AMD, explained the importance of having a good group dynamic, working in a team with open communication, and handling task conflicts while avoiding personal conflicts. Logan Havern, CEO of DataLogz, inspired me with his journey of raising $12M and growing his platform to its current success. Nabeel Alamgir🦄 , CEO of LunchBox, who raised $100M in VC funding. His story showed how essential perseverance and strategic planning are for growing a startup. I loved how he talked about being yourself and seeking many no's to find the right fit. Shariar Kabir, CEO of Ruby (YC W23) and Ex-Salesforce, encouraged us to find a niche and solve market problems, motivating us to build our own startups. "If you don’t struggle, you don’t improve." Miguel Acero, CTO of Ruby (YC W23) and Ex-Google, shared his journey from Google to building an innovative fintech company. I appreciated his advice on always checking documentation and working on side projects. This event was a real eye-opener, especially hearing from Shariar Kabir and Miguel Acero about their journey from Google to creating an innovative fintech company. Butternut AI is my first startup where I am building in public. Till 2023, I used to think it was a waste of time. Now I think it's the best use of time. 💨🚀 Daniel Kivatinos 💨🚀 had a huge exit and is now building his next venture (JustPaid.io) in public. Immad Akhund is building his Mercury in public. Sahil Lavingia is famous for being super transparent about Gumroad, even his financials are public! So, why do founders build in public (BIP)? • Instant feedback : Building a startup isn't like writing a book. You need constant feedback to achieve PMF. BIP is the fastest way to gain feedback. • Customer acquisition : People buy from people they know. If they have seen your startup journey + wins + struggles, they're super likely to buy from you. • Warm > Cold : Try sending a cold email to someone important, and get marked as spam. Send an email to a warm contact and see the response rate. • Personal > company : Try posting content from your company page and no one cares. Post content from personal account and people want to listen. • Contributor > Lurker : 95%+ people don't contribute, they just consume content. I used to do so too. But if you become a contributor, you have a huge power. • I don't have a billion $ (currently) : If you're P&G, you can buy ads tell everyone to buy Oral-B. If you don't have a billion $ marketing spend, just build in public. Kudos to every founder who is building in public. For those who aren't, just try it for a month! :)

I have an ABSOLUTE brutal truth to share. The other day I was looking over my bootcamp roster from the last 4 years. Name after name after name. No longer posting on LinkedIn. No longer active. Gone. Now, you can make the argument, "Wow... you must SUCK, Doug". lolz Or you can accept, with cold clarity....the online game is a brutal meat grinder. BUSINESSS is a meat grinder: Here's some AI data (copied off Google): According to Exploding Topics, 90% of new startups fail, with 10% not surviving their first year. First-time startup founders have an 18% success rate. Clarify Capital says that 40% of businesses fail within three years, 49.9% within five years, 65.8% within 10 years, 73.3% within 15 years, and almost 80% within 20 years. I've been in the game 12 years. This past year was my BEST year revenue-wise. ALL of my business have either come from Twitter, LinkedIn or my email list. How was I able to pull this off?
