As a lived experience practitioner this research is a meaningful, validating and important step in the right direction. Lived experience = human experience. It is an asset. Those that have walked through the darkest nights and traversed the wildest seas have insight, perspective and wisdom that deepens their ability to do this important work. There is awareness, skills and knowledge gained through enduring and overcoming that no textbook can ever teach. And then choosing to take on the stressful, relentless and challenging years of requirements it takes to become a Clinical Psychologist while navigating your own continuous wellbeing - I can tell you it’s no easy task! Amongst education focused on theoretical and academic knowledge and experiencing the silencing that still exists in the academic and professional space I feel safety trusting a self aware, resilient and dedicated Lived Experience practitioner over a highly qualified and educated professionals to safety guide me through the challenges. And that’s my WHY ✨ Here’s to Lived Experience being: Supported. Recognised. Normalised. Destigmatised. Celebrated. Mai i te pō ki te ao mārama: From the darkness into the light.
Amazing to develop this mahi with Miriam, Katie and Jess. Hoping this helps us break down some of the arbitrary separations between ‘professional’ and ‘patient’, and try to remember that we’re all just people. I have refrained from commenting on some recent changes and reforms in #psychology. The field is not being treated as a professional one; instead, the rules, regulations, and norms are being questioned and debated among professionals. The biggest concern right now is the uncertainty surrounding the fate of seasoned professionals who have been in the field for a decade or longer, as well as those just starting their journey to become counseling psychologists. We are left with many unanswered questions: - What will happen to recent graduates with master's degrees? - What about students of humanities who have been preparing for a career in psychology from a young age? - How will professionals who have completed their master's but lack a 4-year B.Sc in Clinical Psychology obtain their licenses as counseling psychologists? - What should be the next steps for individuals recently completing their 12th-grade, bachelor's, or master's? And many more... The current state of the field is causing significant concern among professionals and students about the impact on their careers and the new guidelines, leaving us with more questions than answers. This situation prompts the question: Has anyone consulted professionals in the field to determine the best course of action to improve access to mental health services in our country and regulate this field? I would really appreciate hearing your views. Sincerely, A Curious and Confused, Unlicensed Counseling Psychologist Link to RCI Notification- https://lnkd.in/gjWxunMM

When addressing mental health, both psychologists and psychiatrists play crucial roles, often working together to provide comprehensive care. However, their roles and approaches to treatment differ significantly. Psychologists primarily focus on therapy and counseling. They are trained in various therapeutic techniques and are skilled in diagnosing mental health conditions, conducting psychological testing, and providing psychotherapy (commonly known as "talk therapy"). Therapy can take many forms, including cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), psychodynamic therapy, and humanistic approaches, among others. Psychologists also offer more than just talk therapy; they can design and implement behavioral interventions, provide psychoeducation, and conduct research. Psychiatrists, on the other hand, are medical doctors (MDs or DOs) specializing in mental health. They have the authority to prescribe medication, which is a key distinction from psychologists. while psychologists and psychiatrists have distinct roles, their collaboration enhances the quality of mental health care, combining therapeutic interventions and medical management for optimal patient outcomes. Psychologists, how do you collaborate with psychiatrists in your practice? What benefits have you observed from this teamwork?

🌟 The Unsung Heroes in Multidisciplinary Teams: Psychologists 🌟 As a recruiter in the mental health sector, I continually observe the transformative role that psychologists play within multidisciplinary healthcare teams. Their expertise is extremely beneficial in crafting well-rounded, effective treatment strategies. Here’s why psychologists are critical in these settings: 👂 Enhancing Communication and Care: Within a multidisciplinary setting, psychologists collaborate with professionals from psychiatry, social work, occupational therapy, and other allied health fields. Their skills in communication and conflict resolution can bridge gaps between different healthcare professionals. This blend of expertise also fosters a comprehensive approach to patient care, ensuring well-rounded treatment. 📈 Opportunities for Professional Development Being part of such teams provides an excellent platform for learning. Psychologists and their team members are exposed to varied methodologies and viewpoints, enriching each of their own professional skills. 🔎 Improved Problem-Solving Capabilities Handling complex cases effectively often requires collective insight. Multidisciplinary teams offer a wider array of problem-solving tools, leading to innovative and more efficient outcomes that might elude a single-specialty approach. 🤝 Enhanced Peer Support Working alongside peers from different disciplines provides psychologists with a robust support network, crucial for managing the stresses associated with complex cases. If you're a psychologist looking to make a significant impact, consider the dynamic and fulfilling roles within multidisciplinary teams. Your skills can light the way to innovative treatments and improved patient outcomes. #TeamworkInHealthcare #Collaboration #MultidisciplinaryTeams #MentalHealth #GorillaJobs #Psychologist
