Thanks for the invitation to be part of the panel session at the #SETPlan conference in Budapest, on 'Fostering Sustainability in Onshore wind and offshore renewables" and the opportunity to provide insights on recyclability and circularity of wind turbine blades. LM Wind Power began its sustainability journey in 2010 by signing up to the UN Global Compact and reached a significant milestone in 2018 by achieving carbon neutrality for our own operation. In November 2021, LM Wind Power embarked on the next chapter in its sustainability journey by announcing a commitment to produce Zero Waste Blade by 2030 and since then we have been working to prevent waste generation in our facilities. Today 43% of the manufacturing waste generated when we manufacturing wind turbine blades is recycled. The next step is to circled the manufacturing waste and materials from end-of-life wind turbine blades back into the production of materials with recycled content for manufacture of new wind turbine blades. The establishment of a circular economy by reducing the volume of materials flowing in and out of the economy will require partnerships across the entire value chain in the blade life cycle as well as partnerships across other sectors using similar materials and having similar desires. Accelerating the establishment of a circular economy requires funding for development, demonstration and implementation of necessary technologies and incentives to enable increased circularity. The SET Plan and the Circular Economy Action Plan describe key actions in the EU's goal of becoming climate-neutral and transitioning to a circular economy by 2050. #WeKnowBlades #ZeroWasteBlades

It was an enriching experience to delve deeper into their ambitious transition from traditional oil and gas operations to sustainable energy practices—a complex yet inspiring journey. Transitioning from a legacy fossil fuel business to green energy is undoubtedly challenging, but TotalEnergies’ approach to diversification is a model of innovation and responsibility. Did you know that #TotalEnergies is currently a leading player in private solar development? Their strategic expansion into renewable energy showcases their commitment to staying at the forefront of the energy transition. Additionally, I was particularly impressed by their active initiatives in biodiversity conservation and carbon capture and storage (#CCS). These efforts are critical in addressing their #environmental #footprint and demonstrate a strong commitment to sustainable business practices. Carbon capture, a cornerstone of their sustainability strategy, highlights their forward-thinking approach to reducing emissions and ensuring long-term responsibility in the energy sector. Such initiatives underscore how legacy energy companies can evolve to meet global climate goals while balancing economic growth and environmental stewardship. TotalEnergies' vision truly aligns with the principles of sustainability and energy transition that I advocate for as a professional. On World Environment Day, we express our gratitude to energy communities for their contributions to the energy transition and their environmentally responsible behaviour. This is why MET Group’s Green Assets Division, MET Energia Italia and MET Energía España have jointly created an award for “courageous developers” of energy communities, in cooperation with local NGO partners, Italian Legambiente and Spanish ECODES (Fundación Ecología y Desarrollo).   This video shows the award ceremony in Rome where the 5 best Renewable and Solidarity Energy Communities were celebrated; the award ceremony in Madrid will take place on June 25. The winners of the Italian and Spanish campaigns will not only receive financial support from MET Group, but also professional energy consultancy hours to help them grow further. These communities promote renewable energies through their production and consumption, as well as initiatives encouraging energy efficiency and sustainable mobility. Renewable technologies are considered to be clean sources of energy. The optimal use of these resources will minimize environmental impacts – thus protecting the world we live in.

It's time we gave nature a voice in business decisions. This time last week I got to spend my Friday morning at The Wave thanks to Joss Ford, Bonnie Middleton and the Enviral team! Surrounded by business and non-profit changemakers, it was great to contribute to the roundtable on how we can keep driving the sustainability agenda. 'Strength in numbers' came out on top, alongside something new: 'appoint Nature a place on your board of directors'. Massive thanks to Abby Richardson and Rowena Malpass for sharing your insights into the impact you've created out of some amazing partnerships. For profit, for people, and for planet - I definitely agree that partnerships should be a central component to any sustainable business model, no matter the size of your business. From my experience working with start-ups and non-profits, this is often deprioritised, particularly when communicating shared goals to the outside world. I've seen first hand how a successful communications strategy around a partnership can not only drive growth, but also amplify the sustainability message. As always, profit and impact don't have to be mutually exclusive.
