June American Mineralogist: Concerning tetrahedrites: How much to lump and how far to split? https://lnkd.in/gVpn97ej The recent redefinition of the tetrahedrite group of minerals has resulted in descriptions of numerous new compositional variants, along with opportunities for many more, perhaps an extreme example of mineral definition splitting. The work by Hazen and co-authors developing a new mineral classification approach has led to questions about how and when to split or lump mineral definitions. This paper by Johnson explores some of the consequences of both threads, using the tetrahedrite group as a vehicle.

🌟 Isotopic Signatures of Microbial Mg-Carbonates Deposited in an Ephemeral Hyperalkaline Lake (Central Spain): Paleoenvironmental Implications 🌟 👉 Highlights: 1. δ13C and δ 18O values typify an alkaline lake highly enriched in DIC 2. δ13C of intracellular carbonates range between -2.5 and -6‰ 3. EPS pools have broader variations in δ13C than in δ18O 4. Dialyzed EPS are more depleted in 13C than in 18O 📜 ✍ María E. 📢 Exciting News Alert! 📢 We were not done separating #RareEarthElements (REEs) from #AcidicMineWaters. We went one step ahead and we fractionated them into Light REEs and Heavy REEs, and recovered them as #REEsOxalates. Our work paid off and a new paper is now available at Science of the Total Environment (STOTEN)! 📚🎉 A special acknowledgement to the coauthors: Julio López Rodríguez, and Jose Luis Cortina Pallas. If you're curious to learn more about this research, just hit that link below! 🔗💡 https://lnkd.in/eG5pqPXJ

Did you know the Fen alkaline-carbonatite complex (Norway) mentioned in this article has a twin sister in Sweden called Alnö, and that there maybe more Alnö that can host carbonatites and good level of REEs?
