While Indonesia and Asia in general grow steadily in economy, inequity exists in various sectors including gender, health, education, nature based solutions, and climate issues. While these gaps are important to address, domestic finance both from state and non-state actors may not be accessible due to complex situations on the ground. This is where borderless giving still can play a significant role in addressing the gaps while inviting other forms of domestic capital to join forces. See you at the AVPN Global Conference 23-25 April 2024 in Abu Dhabi!
What does it take for us to create a world of borderless giving? As wealth in Asia steadily rises, along with entrepreneurship and global connectivity, philanthropists in the region are poised to extend their impact to communities beyond their borders. More needs to be done to strengthen this practice. Pradeep Nair (Ford Foundation) will moderate a conversation on cross-border giving with Angeline Chin (Johnson & Johnson Foundation), Birger Stamperdahl (Give2Asia Myriad USA), and Romy Cahyadi (Instellar Indonesia) at the AVPN Conference 2024. Join us! Reserve your seat now on the conference app. #AVPN2024 #OneAsiaOneFuture #philanthropy Nadya S. Pryana Ruth Jones

As July comes to a wrap, I want to express my deepest appreciation to all who made our conversation earlier this month possible at the Forum Conference in St. Louis! Nancy Sanabria (she/her) and Laura Smith for your trust, camaraderie, and candor; David Maurrasse for sharing your wisdom across the years; and Traci Slater-Rigaud and the United Philanthropy Forum community for the invitation and opportunity. And always grateful for Philanthropy New York and my colleagues' support, one of whom reminded me yesterday to share the 3 Rs from my remarks - so below is a summary. Spoiler: Although this panel is entitled "Advancing Racial Equity through Cohort Learning," cohort-based learning (CBL) is only one tool we use to support our funder members' journey in advancing more racially equitable practices within philanthropy: More importantly, the work of bringing folks along requires Resourcefulness, Relationship-Building, and Repetition (3 Rs). -- Resourcefulness: In other words, creativity. We use all the tools in our toolbox as philanthropy-mobilizing organizations: peer networks, issue-based working groups, skills-building programs, policy work, CBLs. With these wrap-around strategies, we nurture folks' learning, leadership, and growth in accessing their spheres of influence to effect change. We support their self-directed learning journey towards shifting practices. -- Relationship-building: Invite people in, and invite people to invite people in. Create the conditions for folks to learn, listen, engage, have difficult conversations, to increase trust and depth of relationships over multiple and consistent engagements. So when they're ready to act, they move together. -- Repetition: Regardless of the audience, which room or zoom we're in, what the session topic is, we remain clear and consistent, leading with our values and our commitments in service to a more democratic and just future. Rinse and repeat. We need each other to stay the course. And we need to remind ourselves that this is "forever work," and forever work requires Resourcefulness, Relationship-building, and Repetition - the 3 Rs. And might I add a fourth in this writing? Rest.
Catch me at #ForumCon24 later this week - so honored to be in community with my learning peers sharing our experiences advancing racial equity with our members! w/Nancy Sanabria (she/her) from Philanthropy Northwest, Laura Smith from Philanthropy Ohio, David Maurrasse from Marga Incorporated, United Philanthropy Forum, and Philanthropy New York https://lnkd.in/eQg_QUHA

A super useful initial #guidebook to #donor-#community relationship following a horrific catastrophe (in thjs case- #october7massacre ). I believe that Ariel Dloomy's insights can apply to many other circumstances. As a former kibbutznik myself, I would add to this list that I think the past four months have reshaped the interactions between kibbutzim and #philanthropists. It is a remarkable example of two parallel lines which have hardly met in the past 75 years, but were forced to come together in a time of need. The lesson for other communities and organizations is to look around and map those other stakeholders which are not currently on your #radar; and then start building relationships and channels of #communication. It may prove critical when the next #crisis or #disaster hits- either you, them or both.
My op-ed on eJP where I share some professional and personal insights since Oct. 7. Engaging in philanthropy within the Gaza envelope communities, where I grew up.

The Solidarity Collaborative’s work will draw from and build upon existing efforts of leaders and organizations at the forefront of solidarity work, offering inspiring examples of what is possible with greater intentionality around and investment in robust solidarity efforts. These examples include a series of cross-community Solidarity Summits, dedicated to fostering and supporting solidarity among social justice communities, where leaders such as Judith Browne Dianis were able to come together and share in their experiences. In our recent case study, Dianis, Executive Director of the Advancement Project, shares about how Solidarity Summits offered the unique opportunity to learn about movement building and resource sharing alongside fellow social justice philanthropic leaders.
