Having just read this report from February 2024, which was funded by the Home Office, I agree that there should be an urgent inquiry into child sexual abuse and grooming gangs and for those who are very, very concerned about the ethnicity of the perpetrators, they should give special consideration to paragraph 4.3.5 Characteristics of defendants: enthnicity. #Robert Jenrick #factsmatter #datamatters #expertsmatter #thetruthmatters

Pleased to see this important Govt report given space in the press. The focus on institutional or group sexual abuse and exploitation has often crowded out the more uncomfortable discussion about familial abuse and to hear professionals are becoming de-skilled in this area is very worrying indeed. It’s also significant to me that the report highlights the responsibility family courts have in safeguarding child victims and cases where this has gone very, very wrong including when it ends with the child being ordered into contact with the perpetrator. Criminal court judges are given mandatory training on sexual offences. Surely family judges are entitled to the same? So much to learn here and encourage all professionals with child safeguarding responsibilities to read it. https://lnkd.in/ey9-AUmf
Very powerful editorial in The Observer today on the recent review into child sexual abuse in the family environment. It captures the key points brilliantly, and makes a compelling case for all of us to be much more willing to face up to the realities of sexual abuse. Did you know that 50-70% of child sexual abuse cases in the U.S are perpetrated by other youth? (Gewirtz-Meydan & Finkelhor, 2020) That’s why initiatives like Responsible Behavior with Younger Children, a program that focuses on prevention education among school children, are imperative. “It’s normal these days.” The Policing Institute for the Eastern Region (PIER) 'self-generated' child sexual abuse fieldwork findings report has launched, with insights on what works in approaches to public awareness campaigns that might be effective in educating children, their parents/carers, and educators about this crime. Findings are presented as key themes, including: 1. The context that children exist within and experience; 2. Children’s direct experiences of SG-CSAM; 3. SG-CSAM and gender; 4. Risk factors; 5. Parents/educators responses; 6. Dark web CSAM forum findings; 7. Tradecraft. Read more about the report, developed in partnership with the IWF and funded by the Oak Foundation, on our website.
