🍄 The Potential of Psychedelic Mushrooms in Treating Anorexia 🍄 👏 As a proud graduate of Monash University, I was thrilled to see this groundbreaking research from my alma mater. In May 2024, Monash researchers revealed the potential of psilocybin, the active compound in psychedelic mushrooms, as a treatment for anorexia nervosa. The study demonstrated that psilocybin could enhance psychological flexibility, allowing patients to overcome rigid thought patterns commonly linked to anorexia. 👏 This is a significant step forward for natural health and functional mushroom research, showcasing how bioactive compounds in medicinal mushrooms can play a transformative role in mental health treatment. While further clinical trials are needed, this discovery highlights the growing intersection between ancient wisdom and modern therapeutic approaches. It’s exciting to see the health and wellness potential of functional mushrooms being explored in such innovative ways. The future of natural supplements and mental health solutions is looking brighter! 👍 https://lnkd.in/gftyeZEy #MedicinalMushrooms #PsychedelicResearch #FunctionalMushrooms #MentalHealthInnovation #NaturalSupplements #HolisticHealth #AnorexiaTreatment #MonashUniversity

The Plant (Chicago, IL) has recently been the site of another pioneering study on the potential benefits of psychedelic compounds for mental health treatment! This research marks a significant milestone in the exploration of new therapeutic avenues for conditions like obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). In this study, Parow Entheobiosciences cultivated psychedelic mushrooms using grain from Whiner Beer Company. These mushrooms provided the key extracts for the study, which Back of the Yards algae sciences (BYAS) conducted in laboratories built by Bubbly Dynamics using salvaged materials. The focus of this study was to assess the impact of a single dose of psilocybin and a psychedelic mushroom extract on SAPAP3 knockout mice, which are known to exhibit behaviors similar to OCD. The research found that both treatments led to a notable reduction in excessive grooming and anxiety-like behaviors, with the effects lasting up to seven weeks. Interestingly, the mushroom extract showed a stronger effect, suggesting that natural compounds may offer additional benefits over synthetic options. By leveraging the unique strengths of tenants at The Plant, our business community can integrate sustainability with cutting-edge research; driving scientific innovation that could transform mental health treatments for people around the world. 🌟🧬 Does your Gut Influence Your Social Life? 🧬🌟 A groundbreaking study by Falkenstein et al. (2024) published in PNAS Nexus explores the impact of gut microbiome composition on social decision-making. 🧠💡 The research examined altruistic social punishment behavior in an ultimatum game after a 7-week synbiotic food intervention compared to a placebo. Participants who underwent the intervention were more willing to sacrifice a monetary reward when faced with unfair treatment, linking this change in behavior to altered levels of tyrosine—a dopamine precursor—in the fasting-state serum. 🔍These findings suggest a potential mechanistic link between the gut microbiota, brain function, and behavior, contributing to our understanding of the gut-brain axis and its role in social decision-making. In Chinese medicine one of the major causes of disease is living out of tune with the natural world. That’s because in Chinese medicine we are nature and nature is us. Each of the 5 elements - wood, fire, earth, metal, and water - are found in nature and also within us. Observing these elements in nature can teach you about yourself. For example, if you’re a fire element person, you can literally stare at a fire to learn more about yourself. Consider: - What happens when there’s too much water around a fire? - What happens when wood is added to a fire? - What happens when dirt (earth) is thrown into a fire? All of these interactions in nature are a mirror for yourself and how you interact with others. As a result, you can look to nature to understand your health, relationships, and personality because the qualities of nature are the same qualities that are within you. The bottom line is that when you live out of tune with nature, you’re living out of tune with yourself. In the modern world it’s become the norm to be disconnected from nature and even to look at it as archaic and unnecessary. But IT IS US, and battling against it or denying that we’re influenced by it negatively impacts our health. We may feel: - anxious - depressed - apathetic - resigned - and experience a lack of purpose and fulfillment in life when we’re disconnected from nature. In order to live more in tune with the seasons, observe nature and the 5 elements within it - wood, fire, earth, metal, and water, and consider getting acupuncture. Want to be the first to know about new offerings focused on helping you deepen your understanding of the 5 elements? Join my 5 element courses waitlist: https://lnkd.in/gPH6pda7
