“Pre-loved” Christmas gifts are set to be worth… are you sitting down?... £2.05 billion this year. That’s 10.2% of total UK Christmas spending, with value for money and sustainability being cited as key reasons for the boom in secondhand sales. And with the cost of living crisis still making it tough for hundreds of thousands of families, that makes a big difference. One of the sections in our recent “Why Won’t Cash Just Die???” study that stood out to me was the role that cash can play in helping people to stick to budgets - with electronic payments so easy to lose track of. Have you come across “cash stuffing” for example? Of course, retailers want people to spend this festive season, but they should be helping them to do it responsibly. #Cash #Payments #Retail

Christmas Spending... some facts Separate findings say that the average UK household will spend £1,811.70 on Christmas festivities this year, the equivalent of 80% of the average monthly UK income. 30 years ago the average spend was £229 meaning, adjusted for inflation, the 'cost of Christmas' has risen 290% in three decades. WOW... incredible and crazy!! 🍖 £500/month on food shopping 🎁 £280 per child on Christmas gifts What if you could turn that spending into savings? A UW cashback card reduces your utility bill every time you use it to pay for your shopping. ✔️ 3% cashback at Aldi or Sainsbury’s = £15/month off your UW bill ✔️ 5% cashback at Argos = £28 off your UW bill during Christmas shopping That’s £43/month saved just by shopping where you already do! 💸 💜 Imagine what you could do with those savings... every single month! Ready to make your spending work for you? Drop me a message to find out how to get one.

It's in! Christmas shipping cut-off dates for AU domestic🎄 Parcel Post: 20th December Express Post: 23rd December Few variances with metro location vs regional - but start prepping for this! But here's 3 ways you can use it to drive urgency in your marketing: → Add it into website messaging with a hint of FOMO (banners, checkout) → Add it into Ad messaging "Order By X to have it by Christmas" → Use it for a last minute Christmas gifting push with 'last minute gifting, here's free express for 24 hours only' This is only a few ways to use it drive conversions on your site. But we see time and time again, these are simply a guideline of dates. As with any postal service, it can't predict: 1. BFCM parcel demands (3 days less between Christmas and BFCM this year...) 2. Weather events To name a few... So always, be prepared and make sure the message you give customers, is a promise you can guarantee. Use these as a guideline 🙏🏼 Find more information here: https://lnkd.in/gv7s4aMJ #shippingdates #auspost #ecommerceaustralia #christmasshopping

CNET’s 2024 Holiday Spending Survey is out! 🎁 Special thanks to Bernadette Joy and Gregg Murset, CFP® for their insight. What to know: As the holiday shopping season ramps up, it’s important to take a look at your holiday plans and budget accordingly to avoid debt in the new year. Early sales are a money saver: Many shoppers are taking advantage to of early holiday deals to avoid overspending and save more on items. Budgeting is in: Most respondents are sticking to strict budgets, indicating a strong desire for financial discipline this year. Cash is king: A significant number of shoppers are choosing debit cards and cash over financing options to avoid racking up debt. Thrifting & second-hand are on the rise: More shoppers are looking at more sustainable gift giving options. Biggest takeaway for shoppers: Plan ahead and track your spending every step of the way! Even though you may have planned for early sales, make your list and stick to it. Buying now AND later can lead to overspending and debt. How are you preparing for holiday shopping this year? #HolidaySpending #FinancialWellness #BudgetingTips #CNETMoney

Statistic Of The Day: PNC has provided a Christmas Index for the past 41 years and here are the 2024 results. The true cost of the gifts from the song the 12 Days of Christmas. "Purchasing all 364 gifts — the "True Cost of Christmas," that is buying the gifts with verses repeated — crossed the $200,000 threshold for the first time last year, and today settles in 3.6% higher at $209,272. Trying to quickly sleigh your list by shopping online? Price increases for tech-savvy Santas were lower than those who shop in stores, but the total remains higher at $54,074. The convenience of shopping from home is still impacted by elevated shipping and packaging costs that have yet to ease since the pandemic." https://lnkd.in/eBmG5dU

🎁 Studies show that American households are predicted to spend an average of $2,100 this year on holiday-related goods, experiences, and decor. The National Retail Federation similarly forecasts that shoppers will spend just over $900 per person. But celebrating the holidays doesn’t have to take a huge toll on your wallet, nor should parents feel pressured to overspend! Use our tips to help reign in holiday spending while maximizing holiday fun: 🎄Shop locally and support your community. The Downtown Ithaca Alliance and Business Improvement District published their 2024 Holiday Guide, a comprehensive list of small vendors and artisans, each selling unique gifts. Rest better knowing your purchase directly helped your community, too! 💸 Set a budget and stick to it. Many consumers focus on finding deals only to realize that they’ve substantially exceeded their overall budget. Setting an upper limit on what you’re willing to spend allows you to save toward your goal. You could also set a gift price limit to set expectations. 🤲 Focus on holiday experiences that won’t break the bank. A gift could be going ice skating, baking holiday cookies together, or roasting marshmallows and drinking hot chocolate in the snow. Thoughtfulness and spending time together make for long-lasting memories. 🚫 Avoid signing up for store credit cards that encourage you to spend more and exclusively at their stores. The discount is often not worth the high interest rates. Got more tips we missed? Share your advice in the comments below! - #CFCU #myCFCU #creditunion #holidayshopping #gifts #goals #ithacany

I’m glad to have recently started at Retail Economics and also to have worked on this as one of my first projects, exploring the growth of second-hand Christmas gifts and why people are buying second-hand. The research is in partnership with Vinted and finds that 10.2% of all UK gift spend will be spent on second-hand gifts this year – equal to £2.05bn. Most people (63%) are comfortable receiving second-hand gifts, and buying second-hand is not new. Nearly two-thirds (63%) of second-hand shoppers have bought pre-loved items as Christmas gifts at some point in the past, rising to 77% of those aged 18-35. Overall, those aged 18-45 are driving the shift to buying pre-loved, with younger generations embracing it as a way to save money, find unique items, and shop in a more environmentally friendly way. Shoppers are also selling items online to help fund Christmas shopping and boost their gift budgets. 43% of shoppers are planning to sell items on recommerce platforms to help fund their Christmas shopping in 2024, rising to 54% of those aged 18-45. While this is not new behaviour – 47% have sold unwanted gifts in the past – it shows how the second-hand economy is becoming an integral part of the festive season. In the coming years, this is likely to grow - shoppers are planning to increase how much they buy second-hand. Over a third (35%) expect to buy more over the next 5 years. This rises to 43% of those aged 25-34. You can read more about why shoppers are buying second-hand this Christmas here: https://lnkd.in/exJq_aQJ
