Another book I have just released a new book. It's a real change of pace for me. I am the second author. The lead author is Ruth Judson — who is my 12-year-old granddaughter. She also did all the illustrations. We've been working on this book for 3 years, and we're excited to make it available. The book is about the causes of World War I. It is written by a kid for other kids — that is one of the hooks. But I think adults will enjoy it as well. A second hook is that instead of emphasizing important leaders and important dates and important battles and important events, this book emphasizes important decisions. So it is a decision-centered approach to writing history. A third hook is that it cuts through all the complicated causes for the start of World War I and identifies a single, overarching cause that has not, to my knowledge, been flagged before. Re: book recommendations. If you're like me, you can never get too many book recommendations! Worse case, you borrow it from the library, read a few pages, and return it. Best case, it becomes a staple on your bookshelf. Just this weekend, I was asked to join a board of trustees. Over breakfast, I shared the nomination with my kiddos and told them of my surprise, the feeling of honor, and concerns that I could not fulfil the responsibilities. My 9 yr old daughter told me she understood and worried sometimes too. She began telling me about a book that has helped her, went to grab "Growing Pangs" (https://a.co/d/1CdKgXx) and turned to specific pages to share the context and lessons with me and her younger brother. Why am I sharing this? I'm not so sure - it's beautiful, I love book recommendations (especially from a 9 yr old!), and generally wanting to share a life and learning story... Would you take book recs from a 9 yr old?! *I don't believe much of improvement is about lack of skill, but of will (a lesson often reinforced by the dear, Lonnie Wilson).
