At Zero Overdose, we recognize the importance of addressing mental health as a critical component of overdose prevention. Through education, community engagement, and partnerships, we’re working to connect people to resources that support both mental health and addiction recovery. May is a time to raise awareness of and reduce the stigma surrounding behavioral health issues, as well as highlighting the ways how mental illness and addiction can affect all of us – patients, providers, families, and our society at large. Mental Health Awareness Month was established in 1949 to increase awareness of the importance of mental health and wellness in Americans’ lives and to celebrate recovery from mental illness. For more than 20 years, the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) has recognized Mental Health Awareness Month (MHAM) every May to increase awareness about the vital role mental health plays in our overall health and well-being and provide resources and information to support individuals and communities who may need mental health support. #mentalhealthawarenessmonth #mentalhealthawareness #mentalhealth #mentalhealthmatters #mentalhealthadvocy #mentalhealthrecovery #mentalhealthisimportant

💭 Did you know? Only 11% of those with a substance use disorder seek care voluntarily. In this insightful conversation, Nick Jaworski, a Contrarian Mental Health Advocate and an expert in addiction treatment and recovery, discusses the challenge of getting individuals to seek help. As he explains to Ken Stearns, despite a clear diagnosis, most people don’t actively look for treatment — often, it’s families, workplaces, or even the court system pushing for intervention. There is a need for better access and support systems to help those who aren’t ready to seek help on their own. #AddictionRecovery #MentalHealthAwareness #SubstanceUseDisorder #AddictionTreatment #FamilySupport #RecoveryJourney #MentalHealthMatters #SupportSystems
