September is National Suicide Prevention Month, designed to increase awareness about suicide prevention and share hopeful messages. In 2020, the CDC reported that suicide was the second leading cause of death among children aged 10-14. It’s vital for prevention to have open conversations with kids about suicide. Experts in this area say talking with children about suicide is NOT harmful and will not make them consider something that they hadn’t thought of before. Suicide prevention is a significant public health challenge. The causes of suicide feelings are complex, varied, and influenced by a broad range of factors. Building an understanding of these factors, behaviours and most importantly how to communicate about them is vital. Having the right people, with the right knowledge, in the right place can save lives.  We have partnered with The National Centre for Suicide Prevention Education and Training CIC (NCSPET) to offer the Suicide First Aid Qualification to learners. Today, the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, National Action Alliance for Suicide Prevention, and Suicide Prevention Resource Center released new data that reinforces the urgent need to make suicide prevention a national priority. 💙 93% of people in the U.S. believe there is something that can be done to help reduce the number of people who die by suicide 📱 78% of adults in the U.S. say they would be somewhat or very likely to use 988 if they or someone they knew needed help ❌ 91% of U.S. adults see suicide as preventable, at least some of the time.
