I was speaking with a donor recently. They were recently widowed, and while they have the financial capacity to achieve some significant impact with their giving, they were struggling to make the decisions on their own. It wasn't just that they were missing their spouse over the holidays, but also that they weren't accustomed to or comfortable with the authority they all the sudden had to make giving decisions. We talked about the issues they wanted to support, the communities and stakeholders that would be the beneficiaries, and the resources available to them to help navigate the upcoming end-of-year giving cycle. When I saw this article today from Milken Institute it resonated: https://lnkd.in/edggYb46; these points in particular stuck out to me: ✅ Align giving with long-term goals to maximize social value. ✅ Invest in partnerships that amplify resources and expertise. ✅ Balance short-term wins with efforts that lay the foundation for enduring impact. Good reminders for all of us as we think about our end of year (giving) plans--regardless of the size of our gifts, we can achieve more when we think it through and plan for the immediate and long-term impact we're hoping to achieve. #Philanthropy #CorporateResponsibility #SocialImpact #NonprofitLeadership

Here is something I think our industry can celebrate...family foundations are shifting from donor-centric to community-driven philanthropy, with 72% now focusing on their mission and community needs over individual board interests—a notable rise from 57% in 2015. Social Impact Advising Group collaborates with families and funders to navigate these bold shifts, emphasizing the importance of community engagement and collective impact. By centering the voices and needs of those served, we help ensure that philanthropy creates sustainable, impactful change that resonates far beyond individual preferences. I love helping organizations listen and respond to community need. #FamilyPhilanthropy #SocialImpact #MissionDriven

ICYMI: Power can shift by challenging assumptions. DCT has shown that it works to get and keep young people housed, is cost-effective, and simple in nature– organizations provide young people with cash in a safe way so they can decide what is most needed in their lives.
❓ What does "POWER" mean to you❓ For many funders, the idea of sharing power can feel daunting, and as philanthropy evolves, many are grappling with how to hold, share, and cede power responsibly. At this summer's Grantmakers In Health Annual Conference, we delved into this critical conversation with co-panelists Lauren Wilkie, MSW of Point Source Youth and Dr. Sulma Gandhi, CPCC, ACC of Stupski Foundation. Our discussion explored three innovative models designed to bring resources closer to local communities while challenging long-held assumptions in the sector. Want to learn more?
