With “Jordan and the jam_bot: a work-in-progress performance,” acclaimed keyboardist Jordan Rudess brought his signature blend of innovation and virtuosity to the Media Lab, showcasing a unique blend of human and machine improvisation. The performance was the public debut of an AI model called the jam_bot, which Rudess developed with researchers from the Media Lab’s Responsive Environments group. During the concert, the jam_bot engaged in a musical dialogue with Rudess and violinist Camilla Bäckman. The live performance also featured a kinetic sculpture that responded dynamically to the jam_bot’s musical contributions. Throughout the show, Rudess and Bäckman exchanged musical cues, while interactions with the jam_bot highlighted the potential for AI to collaborate creatively in real time. This project was a collaborative effort led by Professor Joseph Paradiso and graduate students Lancelot Blanchard and Perry Naseck, and included continuous input and data from Rudess. Rudess has been a pioneer in integrating AI into music; the jam_bot project exemplifies "symbiotic virtuosity," where human and computer duet in real time, creating performance-worthy new music live on stage. “The goal is to create a musical visual experience,” says Rudess, “to show what’s possible and to up the game.” He’s also interested in the model’s potential applications in musical technology and education, saying “This work has legs beyond just entertainment value.” Professor Paradiso adds, “At the Media Lab, it’s so important to think about how AI and humans come together for the benefit of all. How is AI going to lift us all up? Ideally it will do what so many technologies have done — bring us into another vista where we’re more enabled.” https://lnkd.in/gY-PysNN

We aren't cogs in a machine, but instruments in a Symphony... I've worked with many talented artists, designers, and engineers on a wonderful variety of projects: from theme parks to the Space Shuttle. When it comes to organizational leadership, you'd be surprised (or maybe not) how common it is for people to resist change, even at the promise of improvements. This resistance was best described to me by a technical artist and writer I worked with at Universal. His fear of structure in the workplace was a simple desire to be more than just a cog in a machine. He wanted to matter. He wanted his work to make a difference. He was motivated to fight every attempt to improve efficiency that might also silo him, anything that felt too "engineering-ish", or trap him into feeling like a gear spinning in circles. The irony is that he felt the same way as many ENGINEERS that I had worked with over the years, even in DoD and military projects. The reality is that you ONLY creates silos if you build your organization like a machine. If you instead design your organization like a symphony orchestra, you get all the benefits of a structured team, AND you LIBERATE your talent to reach their full potential AS THEY SEE FIT. Structure: ⚙️ : In a machine, every part does one thing... repetitively... forever. 🎼 : For a symphony, everyone in the orchestra has their music, and everyone knows their part. There is structure, security, and trust in that. But there is nothing preventing a musician from evolving to 1st chair, nothing preventing them from playing a different instrument in the next concert, or even the SAME concert. Nothing preventing them from putting THEMSELVES into the music Style: ⚙️ : A cog in a machine does nothing but turn, round and round, over and over, the same way as every other cog. Variety is what BREAKS a machine. 🎼 : Each symphonist in an orchestra has a style of vibrato, timing, and emphasis in their playing. Variety is what MAKES an orchestra. Adaptation: ⚙️ : A cog can go slow or fast, or change direction. But that's really it. 🎵 : A musician can read the room and play to the strengths of the orchestra, or alter their approach to meet the tastes of the audience. Improvisation: ⚙️ : A gear follows the instructions of the motor controller. Nothing more. 🎹 : A musician in a band can swap out notes, or even change the key, play on a riff for a few bars, or even make it up the entire way through. CREATION: ⚙️ : Emerging behavior in a machine is called a defect, and is often addressed by replacing the defective part. 🎻 : Emerging behavior in a musician is called Jazz. So when you restructure, start by understanding your TALENT level. Then adapt to IMPROVE your org, not just to change it. 1. Prioritize relationships on the team over processes & tools. 2. Prioritize relationships with vendors & customers over contracts. 3. Prioritize successful designs over documentation. 4. Prioritize adaptability over following a plan.

In the enchanting realm of musical creation, a mysterious new tool known as Supermusic AI has burst onto the scene, promising its maestros a legendary talisman: lifetime access to AI-driven creativity. Imagine, if you will, a wizard's wand. It's shiny, it's magical, and it guarantees to serenade an audience-wide enough to stretch from Middle Earth to Asgard. But, as great fairytales remind us, every enchanted object comes with its own twist. While holding this glittering muse of modular melodies, one can't help but wonder: Is it an abettor in melodic mischief or a maestro with a mind of its own? Some whisper, with a chuckle and a raised brow, that our dear Supermusic AI could compose a concerto while learning to differentiate a saxophone from a trombone. Yet wait... in a universe plagued by planetary noise pollution, could this AI melody-maker be the lantern in the dark we didn't know we needed? Picture this: a collective campfire moment where Supermusic AI composes symphonies worthy of a million stars. But like any good Nadillac - a steed ridden by thrill-seekers at dawn - the allure lies not in the expectation but in the journey. Where will this harmonic horse gallop next? - Musicians become Mages: Expect to see young orchestras casting spells immaculate. - Compositions or Conjurings: Dangerously haunting or surprisingly heart-lifting tunes await. - Concerts on Demand: The potential grand concertos at every one's fingertips! In this dissertation of sound and character, we might cultivate an adventurous spirit, augmented by computation and coaxed by a faithful harmonizing automaton. Is the future brilliantly melodic, unpredictably avant-garde, or laden with the bittersweet solemness of conferred creation? The string of incoherent notes waits eagerly for discerning hands to transpose it to work. For those devoted to these digital strings, treat superstition with delight. Dare to conjure sonic spells of disruptive wonder and duel-acapella with this curious new bard. And why not raise a flag against a symphony of skepticism? Join the opus - your creative ballad is but a composed reach away. #SupermusicAI #DigitalMaestros #MusicalJourney #AIRevolution #SoundAlchemy #CreativeTech #AIandCreativity https://lnkd.in/emdgfXDV

Musical creation with artificial intelligence: Here's a Requiem, created with #Udio, which generated the music, as well as a large portion of the lyrics in Latin. I find the quality to be exceptional, considering that the piece wasn't extensively worked on. Musical creation with AI is bound to be a prominent topic this year! Listen to the video until the end, it's truly difficult to discern that it's AI that produced this music.

Using AI to Create Biblically Inspired Romantic Orchestral Music 🎶 Ever wondered what it would be like to merge AI with biblical verses to create orchestral masterpieces? I’ve built Python scripts to generate unique, biblically inspired musical prompts, allowing us to create a range of styles from Romantic orchestral to Dubstep gospel. Here’s how it works: ✨ Dynamic Combinations: My scripts generate thousands of combinations, blending Bible verses, musical keys, tempos, and orchestral styles — from grand concertos to intimate ensembles. ✨ API Integration: With API requests to BibleGateway, each track can be inspired by the Verse of the Day, like today's selection, 1 Peter 5:8-9. ✨ Single Click Convenience: With one shell command, we can create custom AI music prompts for platforms like Suno AI, enabling new explorations in gospel music with styles like Romantic orchestras or even electronic instrumentals. 🎼 Example Prompt: “Romantic Orchestra, Gb Dorian, Allegro 166 bpm, inspired by 1 Peter 5:8-9.” 📝 Lyric Prompt: “Generate biblically accurate lyrics based on 1 Peter 5:8-9, quoting: ‘Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour...’” Want to see it in action? 🎥 Check out the YouTube video [link in comments] 👨💻 Explore the GitHub repo [link in comments]
