What an honor and surprise from the American Marketing Association to receive this membership spotlight below. Thank you to those who put this together! Ironically this year, I have been cutting back on most of my association memberships and involvement as their focus (and for good reason) is to provide information and support to address the unique needs and concerns of the bulk of their membership; the younger generations of practitioners that will take these professions into the future. Between the paradigm shifts in business practice and professional networking in general brought on by digital communications and the pandemic it seemed inevitable. Plus associations investing time and money into programs about senior leadership career members practice and eventual transition challenges, needs and concerns seems by nature of our literal longevity a less than effective ROI. I actually was approached to have this very discussion with another professional organization leader last year, and asked for my input regarding association business and marketing strategies to better engage their senior members and I provided a short outline after that meeting as a basis for development, only to not hear back after my follow up, kinda proving my point on the subject. Regardless, I have enjoyed providing ideas, input, volunteering and consulting to associations and their efforts over the years, but as of late it does become frustrating to provide my decades of experience and insights to help organizations thrive when I am already paying to belong to them (and paying for subsequent events on top of the yearly membership fees). It all adds up. This is especially true of those of us who lead smaller practices (unlike large commercial and corporate practices that cover these costs as part of their benefits). We have to carefully evaluate all our marketing expenditures on a regular basis, and as many practitioners start to look at winding down a practice or transitioning to consulting, association memberships become less beneficial for all the reasons above. I cannot thank the AMA and IIDA enough for all that they provided me over the years and for the professions they represent, and especially to SBID for continuing to invest in me as a contributor to their organization and from so far away yet keeping me so close and involved! Hello everyone. It’s been a while since I’ve been active here, but I’m thrilled to reconnect and share my passion for true luxury interior design with you all once again. There is a strong difference between something that’s designed well and something that hasn’t been considered in that way. As the co-founder of Carve-D, the idea was to always be the former. Design has to be intelligent, serving a purpose that could be as “trivial” as reducing stimuli after a long day at work. Not being formally trained in an industry allows you to be the rule-breaker, because you didn’t know there were any to begin with. Hence, here we are, breaking free from conventional designs, pushing the boundaries and creating spaces that are great story tellers. Today, in the episode of #OurTeam series, we are talking to our colleague, Delia Munteanu. Within our office, Delia is an interior designer and CG artist. Between us, Delia is the person who, by her presence, balances any discussion or object placed against the rules of #FengShui. 👩🏻🎨 When it comes to her work, Delia tells us about the importance of treating each project as a unique journey, where the client is the hero ready to step into a new chapter of their life. The designer’s role in this story is to help the client create a functional space that reflects their personality, a place called “home”. As for the recipe for her success, Delia points out that there is no successful project without 100% total dedication. Why did she choose to join the RBP team? Delia mentioned the common values shared with the team. It’s unlikely that someone will become a part of your morning talks or the projects you’re working on if you’re not close regarding values. People here are passionate about their work, they are creative, they are brave and they approach every project from the position of “I want to create useful and beautiful places for people”. ✨🤍 A thought from Delia? “Big things depend on small things done very well.” Just as a harmonious interior design is made up of many small pieces put in a balance, so every day is made up of many simple and small things. The more we are caught up in multiple projects, personal or professional, the more we tend to rush through them. But we should do it so that simple and small things are important because they dominate our lives. Ever walked into a room and felt like it was giving you a hug? No, you're not losing your mind--the way I see it, that's experiential design at work. Forget the days when interior design was just about making spaces look pretty. We're now in an era where walls have feelings, and floors have opinions. Or at least mirroring those feelings and opinions. I walk in that room and say to myself, "damn, I really needed that hug." Experiential design is the therapist of the architectural world, focusing on why it matters, rather than how this space can be pretty. Picture this: schools that don't feel like prisons and hospitals that don't scream "You're going to die here!" That's the magic of experiential design. It's turning our physical environments into 3D mood boards, considering everything from our cultural quirks to our emotional baggage. As this trend grows, expect to see more offices that don't make you want to impale yourself on your stapler, and retail spaces that empathize rather than schrill with a glad-hand jingle poke. “We as designers have a responsibility to create environments that aren’t just one size fits all. We have to offer settings that appeal to a diverse array of people and not just assume that every environment is going to allow everyone to thrive….I’m not sure there’s ever going to be one space that suits everybody, that’s why variety and options are so important."
