As a graduate student pursuing a career in medical device sales, I’m committed to developing interpersonal skills that are essential for success in the field. Today, I finished reading How to Win Friends and Influence People by Dale Carnegie. Carnegie’s principles of showing genuine appreciation, understanding others' perspectives, and inspiring cooperation are foundational skills I will bring to future relationships. One of the main takeaways was his principle of creating a sense of “eager want” in others: understanding what truly motivates others and aligning my solutions with their goals. In medical sales, where empathy and trust are critical, I plan to implement these strategies by actively listening, showing sincere interest in clients' needs, and fostering collaborative relationships.
