MLKCH GIVES: Today is the kick off of our annual employee giving campaign, MLKCH Gives—and we’re inviting you to join us. This year’s theme is "With Gratitude" because our staff plays a vital role in making it possible to change the story of #health in South LA, and for that we are incredibly grateful. It takes true #generosity and #leadership to open your heart to an entire #community—especially one like ours that needs a champion. Our goal this year is to secure 650 staff gifts—will you help us start off strong by giving today? Learn more and give: mlkchgives.org

As we begin to celebrate the holiday season and we exit Giving Tuesday, let’s consider constantly keeping our non-profits top of mind as we decide where our corporate investments can make a difference. Adding a strategy to invest in your community has a direct affect on your employees, their families and their friends. A stronger sense of community drives better education and a caring for your neighbors and their well being. Helping build community where your employees live and raise their families directly affects productivity and quality of work for you! One of the largest effects on employee engagement is what your people have to deal with outside of your work. A better life outside of work allows focus and creativity. Not to mention, you are building the next generation of great people for the next stage of your company growth. This is not a new investment. I take pride in helping companies drive top line revenue, expand margins and free up capital to invest back into your company AND your community. The pay-off is bigger than you may realize.

📣 I've been to A LOT of HR conferences and have A LOT of feelings about content and experience (surprising to no one). The Maine HR Convention has some of the best content I've seen to date. This morning's keynote was nothing short of inspiring. No joke, I teared up a few times. The keynote featured 3 young leaders who are trying to make positive changes within their communities. They've founded nonprofits, worked on projects to help the unhoused, and advocated for those who experienced childhood abuse. 🕷 2 were even featured on Marvel's Hero Project! They talked about what inspired them to get involved in their communities at an early age (one started his nonprofit at the age of 8!!), how to best work with younger talent, and what advice they have for HR. Some of my favorite things they shared that can serve as powerful reminders for HR folks: ✨ Aubrey shared: Stay curious about the potential your ideas may have. ✨ Jakil shared: Start small and figure out what adjustments you need to make before you go big. ✨ Elijah shared: Remember why you are involved in this work. Shoutout to the amazing Michelle Anderson who moderated this session! #MEHRC24

Nonprofits can better support employees by clear communication of their mission and vision, engage in professional development, empowerment, recognition, collaborative culture, fair compensation, wellness initiatives, feedback, learning from failures, and leading by example. Implementing these strategies can engage, motivate, and retain employees, ultimately furthering the nonprofit's mission and impact.

How can your organization contribute to social good? How can you involve employees in the company's philanthropic efforts? Employees want to feel their work has meaning. An easy way to demonstrate the meaning behind the work is by involving employees to show the difference their contributions are making. The SHRM article linked below references USANA Health Sciences who include learning about the USANA Foundation as part of their new employee orientation. Employees aren't going to work for years without knowing the importance of their work. They are told on day one about the foundation's work that has resulted in over 100 million meals being provided to needy children and families in 44 countries. Employees are also given updates on the foundation's work at every quarterly all-hands meeting. On company time and expense, the corporation arranges trips to various locations, both national and international, where employees help implement Garden Tower projects - partnering with other nonprofit organizations to provide resources that enable people to grow sustainable nutritious food locally. Chief People Officer Paul Jones shared, "Annual employee engagement surveys indicate that the impact of our philanthropy on employee engagement and retention is definitely affected positively. Both employees and customers want to be part of a good cause that really matters.” To learn about more organizations who are successfully boosting talent retention through corporate philanthropy, check out the article linked below. https://lnkd.in/eJV6UX3r #OnPurposeAdventures #EmployeeRetention #OrganizationalCulture #CorporatePhilanthropy
