🚨 Power changes us—but are we aware of how? 🚨 Being in charge is rewarding, but it also reshapes how we think, act, and connect. Leadership amplifies both strengths and weaknesses. Overconfidence? It grows. Empathy? It might shrink. As HR leaders, we play a crucial role in guiding leaders to manage the effects of power: 🔑 Mind the empathy gap. 🔑 Push for openness. 🔑 Sense-check decisions. Leadership isn’t just about decisions; it’s about self-awareness. How do you keep power in check? #Leadership #HRInsights #WorkplaceCulture https://lnkd.in/g5UEZpnB

https://lnkd.in/gGrFNsgv @NikKinley wrote an excellent article in SmartBrief about the effects of being in charge. This is a must-read for all leaders. She discussed the emotional and mental up and downsides of leading people. She asserted that the three focal points of power are: 1. It increases the psychological distance between leaders and the people they lead. 2. It decreases openness and the flow of information between leaders and followers. 3. It enhances the extent to which internal emotional states influence what the leader feels and thinks. Kinley provided tips on how leaders should manage the effects of power so that they remain effective. #leadership #leadingpeople #managingauthroity #managingemotions

Being CEO is like being alone in a crowd: You are rarely physically alone and yet at times you can feel like the only person on the planet. Loneliness can manifest in different ways. It’s lonely intellectually as you no longer have any peers to spar with. It's lonely in that there will inevitably be things that you know that you cannot share. And it’s lonely emotionally—there are very few people with whom you can really share how you’re feeling. That’s why it’s so necessary for CEOs to find ways to connect with other CE0s. #ceo #ceos #leadership #strategy #culture #society #networking #technology #business #partnerships #microsoft #microsoftceosummit #wsjceocouncil
What’s it like to be CEO? In a word, lonely—and you might not know for years, or decades, whether you did a good job

Let's end this debate once and for all. 🔊 Have you watched the movie series, premiered on HBO called Dune Prophesy? Let me introduce you to Desmond Hart, an enigmatic character in the movie. Desmond Hart is a soldier in the Imperial Army who survived an attack on Arrakis and provides vital intelligence to the renowned Emperor Javicco Corrino. He possesses unique abilities from a near-death encounter with a sandworm. In this epic movie, there comes a scene where Desmond Hart delivers a powerful line that resonates beyond the sands of Arrakis: 🔉 “There are predators in our midst, and we need a leader who will chase those predators away. From now on, there will be no excuses.” This is a call to prompt action, and it’s something every modern leader can take to heart. Apparently, in a workplace setting, there are predators and they can be very sneaky but still harmful. ( Unclear expectations, toxic behaviour, low morale, or systems that stifle creativity ). If these predators are left unaddressed, they have a great tendency to hang around, slow down progress, shake confidence, and fuel frustration. That’s when leadership comes into play, to kick excuses to the curb and pave the way for real progress. Being a leader means being right there in the action, not just watching from the sidelines. Accountability, bold moves, and the guts to say no more excuses. Great leaders don’t put up with predators of inaction, confusion, or negativity. They do the following,👇 1. Set clear expectations so everyone knows what’s up and what their role is. 2. Tear down barriers to success by tackling hidden frustrations within the team. 3. Build trust by being present when it matters. Imagine walking into work where challenges are tackled head-on, not shoved aside. The seeming excuses fade away, the predators back off, and momentum kicks in. It’s easy to make excuses, but they leave behind a shaky foundation. When employees see their leaders care about outcomes and actually follow through, that “no excuses” vibe creates a culture of problem-solvers who focus on growth instead of blame. If you’re a leader, whether you’re a boss, manager, or team lead, think about it this way. What predators are you allowing to hang around? Are they keeping your team from reaching its full potential? Looking at Desmond’s words closely, it’s clear that real leadership shines through when you stand up, face the challenge, and take solid action. Kindly try this 👇 Pick one workplace predator in your world. Tackle it thoroughly this week. Lead with clarity and courage. Remember, from now on there will be no excuses! 😉 #VictoryOkeke #WorkplaceLeadership #NoExcuses #TeamEmpowerment Netflix #AccountabilityWins #LeadershipInAction #BoldLeadership #LeadWithPurpose
