Firm-specific Competencies! Tidd and Bessant (2009) provide specific strategies to develop firm-specific competencies believing the organization’s ability to monitor and exploit core competencies increases likelihood of success. Causes of competitive success relate to firm-specific competencies, and mapping change of core competencies has become an important issue for research and consulting agencies (Tidd & Bessant, 2009). According to Hamel and Prahalad, sustainable competitive advantages for an organization derive from core competencies, not products, and management’s capability to link “corporate-wide technologies and production skills into competencies that empower individual business to adapt quickly to changing opportunities” (as cited in Tidd & Bessant, 2009, p. 196). Hamel and Prahalad inform that core competencies stream into more than one service or product creating additional work or business units (Tidd & Bessant, 2009).
