When does the CPG industry benefit of additional wealth? 💸 Being passionate about all things CPG, I was delighted to stumble across this podcast by McKinsey & Company by Jessica Moulton and Monica Toriello offering even deeper insights on this topic ("Portfolio and performance: Priorities for CPG leaders" thttps://lnkd.in/e47wYdnA). They state that traditionally, when markets are at a fast rate of wealth expansion, the CPG industry benefits- until a certain level of wealth, when consumers start spending additional wealth on other categories. This is where premiumization comes into play. Instead of buying more, consumers buy better versions of standard products. 💎 If you recall our recently published article "50 Shades of Green" in Marketing Review St.Gallen, "Quiet Premium" would be the respective archetype of interest in this case. 🛒 Next time you visit a supermarket or drugstore, pay attention to those products with minimal design and labeling, the more expensive ones in the category. 🏷️Those that you would splurge on instead of going for the budget or standard version- have you noticed more of them recently? 👀

How do consumers choose where to buy from? In the episode "Driving business growth by zeroing in on the consumer decision journey" from the McKinsey & Company podcast, Barr Seitz, Dave Elzinga, and Bo Wildman Finneman discuss why companies have to understand how consumers make decision on what to buy to be successful. The key insight? 70% of brands that a consumer choose to buy from is chosen from their initial consideration set. To stay competitive, brands have to get into that set to drive growth as only 10% of consumers repurchase from a brand without shopping somewhere else first. It's not enough for consumers to recognize your brand; they have to have a deeper relationship with it. Brands have to focus on being considered at the very beginning of the consumer journey. In the competitive landscape of fintech, companies have to figure out how to stand out among thousands of brands. Brands should focus on curating consumer-centric personalization and driving hyper-personalized offerings, driving engagement and customer retention by building a relationship with their consumers.
