Your growing collection of cookery books could be hampering your chances of successfully transforming your eating habits, your lifestyle and your health. If you're actually using them to cook and eat in a way that helps you achieve your goals, then yes, they can be helpful. But if you're flicking through them and looking at the pretty pictures or worse, just adding them to your pile you already have, then it's another exercise in procrastination to protect you from implementing new shizzle. It's a coping mechanism "protecting" you from actually putting new ideas into action... Because if you put it into action, you might be crap or you might fail... Hell you might even be scared you succeed! #ItsAThing These are all potentially scary possibilities and the dopamine hit that we get from buying that new cookery book feels a lot better in the short run. It's taking action but not too much action... It won't expose us to too much risk... It's just enough to convince ourselves we're "doing something". Laying out a couple of hundred quid on cookery books you won't use over the years isn't a big deal in and of itself. But imagine the transformation you COULD have pulled off in that time if you'd applied yourself. That's where the harm lies... All that wasted time while you're somewhere between no different and far unhealthier AND more miserable than ever! Want a new recipe? Google it.
