As a Video Editor/Motion Graphic Designer, I've noticed some frustrating trends in the job application process. Some companies often use "tests" to get work done without committing to hiring, or they list roles with unrealistic expectations. For instance: 1. Pay ranges are either insultingly low (₹5k to ₹20k) or decent, but the job demands 5 to 6+ years of experience, or proficiency with new AI tools, professional photo editing, graphic designing, and even advanced 3D skills—for a video editor role, no less! 2. There's little to no middle ground for those of us with 2-3 years of experience trying to build our careers. 3. Some listings are unpaid—yes, unpaid positions. How can anyone be expected to work for free during a recession? Then, there are the companies who give a call to ask about the qualifications and then never revert back or in some cases, some companies interview you, even have you clear the test rounds, only to later decide not to move forward. Why raise a candidate's hopes just to let them down? The most common issue, though, is the silence. No feedback, no acknowledgment of applications. I know I’m not the only one facing these challenges.

My Hiring for 1 Video Editor & 1 Thumbnail Designer is STILL On... Since my last job post, have received 100s of Emails, DMs for these roles; Out of the 100, shortlisted a few, but still accepting applicants :) If you fit the bill, please mail 👉🏼 anirbanbizz1@gmail.com (DON'T DM!) The last few days have been so stressful: - Read 100s of Emails - Checked 100s of Portfolios - Had a lot of 1-1 calls with shortlisted folks. Mostly have been disappointed by their lack of professionalism : - Not giving public access to the portfolio shared - Too long generic copy-pasted mail template - Writing my name/gender wrong in the mail - Not attaching Portfolio in the mail The most annoying of them all is saying "I have x,y,z years of experience" but then not having ANY portfolio to show! Another annoying thing was receiving long messages and portfolios in my DMs, when I specifically mentioned in the post TWICE that PLEASE MAIL ME! Saying interested in a job post or DMing with generic text won't help when you don't even read the whole post! Shows your lack of discipline & professionalism, creating an instant red flag. To All HR hiring for the role of Video Editor, Please keep these things in mind while your hiring process. 1. A Video Editor is not a scientist or a magician who will be having command of all the software out in the market. 2. Tell your company to raise your budget to 15K-20K-30K this is not the right salary, this is a creative job which needs skills that can’t be learned from reading books it comes from experience and editing sense. 3. A Video editor is not a 3D Designer and not every 3D designer is a compositor and not every Compositor knows Illustration and not all the people doing Illustrator knows Photoshop and so on....... So, please stop looking for a person with all these skills, these are all totally different jobs and don't expect this from the same person just like water is different from stone A Video Editor is different from a 3D Animator Or Motion Graphics Designer. 4. In the above-mentioned budget please don't ask candidates to use their machines for the company - NO- pay rent for it. It's worth more than 2 Lakhs or purchases a new machine for them. 5. Last hire a Creative Director from the media field who can understand the kind of candidate you are looking for rather than asking candidates their profiles and judging them on behalf of their previous projects. A Video is not made by a single person, it's teamwork. I would like to say that video editors to create your own character and personality. Don't tarnish your image by putting Mawa and Gutka in your mouth. Thank You This post is for Pakistani video editors.
