Despite omnidirectional robots offer three degrees of freedom, 𝗺𝘂𝗹𝘁𝗶𝗱𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗿𝗼𝗯𝗼𝘁𝘀 𝗱𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗿𝗲𝗱𝘂𝗰𝗲𝗱 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗲𝘅𝗶𝘁𝘆, 𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗺 𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗶𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗼 𝗺𝗮𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻. 🤖 In 2023, sales of industrial robots in the UK reached a new record high with 3,830 units installed, according to findings in the 2024 World Robotics report, produced by the International Federation of Robotics (IFR). 📈 That’s an increase of 51% compared to 2022! The video shows in a very clear way what does - speed - adaptability and - precision mean for a DELTA robot from Omron. Imagine what manufacturing challenges would you be able to solve with packaging. Especially in Pharma where you have to deal more with smaller batches and where higher flexibility is demanded.

The first 𝐃𝐄𝐋𝐓𝐀 𝐫𝐨𝐛𝐨𝐭 was designed by 𝐑𝐞𝐲𝐦𝐨𝐧𝐝 𝐂𝐥𝐚𝐯𝐞𝐥 and his team at the 𝐑𝐨𝐛𝐨𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐬 𝐒𝐲𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐦𝐬 𝐋𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐲 at EPFL (École polytechnique fédérale de Lausanne) in Switzerland. The team was inspired after a visit to a chocolate factory where the team found the laborious task of packaging pralines. The high speed of the packaging line ruled out integrating any 6-axis robots that were currently on the market. So the team set out to create something entirely new that would solve the problem and with that the DELTA robot was born. The design for the DELTA robot focuses around three high-torque motors mounted to linkage bars that ultimately all meet at a center platform where an end-effector can be connected. The fourth motor either mounted on the platform or overhead allows the end-effector to rotate any product about the z-axis. The entire robot is designed to be mounted overhead of the work area to save on floor space constraints. When the robot first came to market in 1987, it was met with caution from the marketplace. “They would not take the first step and risk their reputation with a robot similar to an umbrella," Clavel said. However, the unique advantages of the robot would soon override any hesitancies and the robot has become extremely popular in high speed, low payload applications.
