🌐 No one company or government controls the internet. It's a combination. In Episode 2 of Digital Democracy I ask who really governs the internet, and spoke to ICANN and the IETF, the Internet Engineering Task Force who regulates internet protocols. I learnt that ICANN has a multi-stakeholder approach to regulating the assigned names and numbers of the internet (IP addresses, DNS country identifiers like .de, .ca, .tech .com) – and that governments, private citizens and companies like IONOS have a seat at the table to create consensus about how things move forward. It's reassuring to know that lots of people are making decisions and because of this we have hope for keeping corporations and governments in check. But then again, I'm a glass half full kinda gal!
