🔋 CHINA'S EV DOMINATION: Is there a blueprint for Africa 🌍 China controls the global EV narrative, and we need to pay attention. Here's why: 📊 THE NUMBERS - 50%+ of global EV sales - $29B+ government support (2009-2022) - Controls 80% of battery mineral processing - Dominates 75% of battery production 🏭 HOW CHINA DID IT: - Government Support. Massive subsidies for manufacturers, Consumer incentives for EV adoption, Public fleet electrification mandates, Preferential policies (parking, licensing), Supply Chain Control, Strategic mineral acquisitions globally, Strategic partnerships with global OEMs 🌍 POTENTIAL LESSONS FOR AFRICAN COUNTRIES: - There is a natural advantage - Rich in critical minerals (DRC, Zimbabwe, Namibia) - Growing domestic market (sales of EV cars & bikes in Kenya, Ethiopia, Nigeria, Uganda, and Rwanda are expected to reach 340,000 to 820,000 units by 2025) - Investment in local infrastructure is crucial 💡 KEY TAKEAWAYS: - Government support is crucial - Supply chain control matters - Local manufacturing is essential - Innovation drives affordability 🤔 Can Africa replicate China's success? Morocco's recent $6.4B battery plant deal suggests we're moving in the right direction. Which other African countries do you think are paving the way for African e-mobility? China has also secured essential minerals for EVs such as Lithium, Copper, Cobalt from resource rich countries including in Africa and gets them at cheap prices that hurt the producer countries. This gives China both secured supplies and lower prices.
