Vijay for a short 150 km ride and the experience was no different than leading a start-up. ✔ Pre-Ride Planning: Detailed route planning considering various factors like road conditions, weather, and rider skill levels. ✔ Safety Briefing: Emphasizing the importance of protective gear, traffic laws adherence, and responsible riding. ✔ ⁠Leading the Ride: Maintaining group cohesion, communication, and adapting to unexpected situations. ✔⁠ ⁠Managing Emergencies: Being prepared to handle breakdowns, accidents, or medical issues. ✔⁠ ⁠Facilitating Communication: Utilizing tools like walkie-tallkies for seamless communication. ✔⁠ ⁠Promoting Group Cohesion: Fostering camaraderie and mutual support among riders. ✔⁠ ⁠Respecting Local Communities: Encouraging riders to respect local laws and minimise disruption. ✔⁠ ⁠Post-Ride Debrief: Gathering feedback and expressing gratitude to all participants. Today marks my 14th year in Hatco. My journey with Hatco like all jobs has not always been smooth sailing and I do have my own challenges despite what others might think. The difference is that though I operate solo in Southeast Asia, my superiors are always a call away and will be there to support whenever I require. I’ve seen a post recently in LinkedIn and it says “Fall in Love with your Job and not the Company.” I also have a friend that I respect a lot telling me something similar. He told me to “Love the Money you receive monthly but not the Company.” I do agree with what they’ve told me and I feel that I may be one of the very rare few in the world that Love my Job and the Company. Partly was also the fact that my former manager took a chance on me and I gave her my promise in return which I intend to keep. As for money, it is definitely a critical component but I’ve never really chased after money because I feel that if I love what I do and do it well with sincerity, honesty, integrity and passion. All the monetary benefits will follow. Though we have had significant people movement in Hatco over the last few years and my recent visit to Hatco also felt different from before, the most important is that the culture remains strong. There might be some disagreements but that is part and parcel of change and growth. So, contrary to many posts here in LinkedIn, I personally feel it’s ok to Love your Job and your Company as long as the company appreciates and acknowledges you.
