The Bioenergy Association of New Zealand has welcomed the proposal from Government in its Action on Agricultural Emissions to provide credits for reductions of gross greenhouse gas emissions from farms. Brian Cox, executive officer of the Bioenergy Association said that “The Government proposals will open up opportunities for farmers to offset biological emissions from livestock".  It is the current lack of recognition and of incentives that are holding farmers back from farming according to circular economy principles and thus off-setting biological emissions. Are digesters more trouble than they're worth? Many farmers are not familiar with the proven international digester and generator manufacturers that have built hundreds of successful anaerobic digesters. They also may not know that these manufacturers now have maintenance staff in the northeast. The roundtable discussions organized by Uganda Animal Feeds Manufacturers Association in collaboration with ANDRITZ Feed and Biofuel are pertinent to the development of the feed and biofuel industry in Uganda. The Biogas system had a few minor issues that needed to be attended to. The plan was to identify the possible leaks, sealing them up and then proceed to connect the rest of the components. We have been successfully producing liquid fertilizer which we have been testing on various crops. But with all the leaks, we have not seen any gas formation. After collecting some fresh cow manure from a neighbouring farmer, we started to mash it up and mix it with water to get the correct consistency of slush and feed the system. We sealed the leaks and started connecting all the parts in preparation for gas production. Unfortunately, our gas bag cover was torn apart due to rats being rats. Luckily the main gas housing is still intact. Now that we have connected the system to completion, we look forward to seeing if we get some good gas production going and hopefully can start using the gas stove, with gas produced from cover manure and food waste (plant waste not animal waste). #Biogas #Biodigestor#OutsideDay #liquidFertilizer #organic #OrganicFarming #OrganicFarming https://lnkd.in/dzhM2vKC

Once again this morning on the BBC news the headlines mention the pollution of the River Wye in Hereford and Monmouthshire. The pollution is associated with run-off from farmland fertilised with chicken manure. There has been an explosion in poultry farming in the Wye valley in the past 2 decades and the waste management problem is accelerating and accumulating. If industrial-scale poultry farming in the Wye Valley is to be sustainable then producers need to look at sustainable alternative technologies for processing their waste. The AGS process is not only a sustainable process for treating poultry manure and litter, it can be used to make #biochar which, when spread on fields can dramatically improve soil quality and eliminate polluted runoff into our rivers.
