What is forced vital capacity? Forced Vital Capacity (FVC) is the amount of air that is exhaled quickly and forcefully after trying to breathe as deeply as possible. This is one of the indicators that allows the assessment of respiratory function, measured by spirometry. Stressed vital capacity is used to differentiate obstructive pulmonary diseases such as chronic pulmonary embolism or asthma from restrictive lung diseases such as pulmonary fibrosis and sarcoidosis. In addition, forced vital capacity is also used to evaluate the progression of lung disease as well as the effectiveness of treatment. Improving pain management in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) is a part of Dr. Bonnie Stevens’ lifelong work. Stevens, a Senior Scientist Emeritus at SickKids, and her lab recently published two studies that bring new insights to the field. In the European Journal of Pain, the official journal of the European Pain Federation EFIC, a literature review from Stevens’ lab found that the frequency and type of painful procedures in the NICU has decreased, but not significantly changed over the past 30 years. Read ➡️ https://bit.ly/4d0C3C8 In BMJ Paediatrics Open, #SKResearch findings suggest that combining pain interventions such as skin-to-skin contact, non-nutritive sucking and swaddling with a low dose of sucrose may be the most effective and safe pain mitigation strategy for preterm babies. AccendoWave - A Pain #Data Company If all the #women waiting for NHS gynaecological appointments in the UK were to stand in line, they would stretch from London to Exeter. That's according to a report by the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RCOG), which found that about 750,000 women across the four nations are waiting for NHS appointments – a number that has more than doubled since February 2020, according to the BBC. And the real number "could be considerably more"; these are just the women who have already been referred onwards by a GP. A Top 4 Global Health Equity Solution and Top 15 Global Remote Monitoring Company, AccendoWave benchmarks objective brain wave pain data (specialty, gender, age) and has nine #pain databases: Emergency Department, Maternal Health, Oncology, MSK, Medical Surgical, ICU, #Women, Adults, Seniors to eliminate bias, improve outcomes and reduce health care costs. If desired, AccendoWave can also create customized pain databases for partners that can be accessed on the Datavant platform.
