Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), or an ‘enlarged prostate’, afflicts between 50-60% of men aged in their 60s, and 80-90% of those aged 70+ years. Symptoms include urinary frequency, an urgent need to pass urine, difficulty getting started, a weak urinary flow, and the feeling of not completely emptying the bladder. Professor Henry Woo is a Urological Surgeon and Head of Department of Urology, Blacktown, Mount Druitt and Sydney Adventist Hospitals; and Director of Uro-Oncology, Chris O'Brien Lifehouse Comprehensive Cancer Centre, Sydney. Prof Woo kicks off our video series, offering valuable insights on the topic. “Men with symptoms of an enlarged prostate often complain about 'FUN', which stands for 'frequency', 'urgency' and 'nocturia' [getting up at night to urinate]. But it's anything but fun. "The worse your symptoms are, the more likely you are to be troubled by sexual dysfunction," said Prof Woo. He explains "men shouldn't have to put up with this" and advises them to speak to their GP about fixing their flow. Stay tuned for next week’s video featuring online business owner, father and grandfather, Barry, 65, Orange, New South Wales, Australia, who wrestled with symptoms of an enlarged prostate for 25 years. September is Urology Awareness Month: An annual campaign aiming to increase public understanding of urological health and the various conditions that affect the urinary system and male reproductive organs. The TU deliver a variety of clinical redesign programmes across the NHS. Our clinical redesign approach ensures that all redesign programmes follow a tried and tested approach enabling change to take place effectively. A clear example of this was a recent cancer project to develop a Case for Change and a set of options for a Model of Care that would enable the system to become compliant with the national standards for Specialist Cancer Urology in Lancashire and South Cumbria. The process ensured a robust decision-making framework was implemented for a complex problem. https://lnkd.in/giD3_M2r Article title: Pre-Sacral Neurofibroma Mistaken for a Uterine Fibroid Author(s): Padmanabha Vijayan* Journal: Archive of Urological Research Journal ISSN: 2692-4706 Abstract: A 33-year-old female patient who presented with urinary retention was found to have a large pelvic mass that was initially diagnosed as a pedunculated posterior wall uterine mass. Further evaluation revealed the mass to be a dumbbell-shaped neural tumor that extended into the sacral canal, corresponding to sacral segments 2, 3, and 4. The patient experienced no neurological deficits. The pelvic part of the tumor was eventually excised and the tumor portion in the sacral canal remained in place. The patient was followed up for 2 years and remained free of urological and neurological symptoms. Histological evaluation of the excised mass demonstrated that it was a neurofibroma. #UrinaryRetention #PelvicMass #SacralCanal #BenignProstaticHyperplasia #BladderStones #BladderCancer #Cystitis #DevelopmentOfTheUrinaryAndReproductiveOrgans #Epididymitis #ErectileDysfunction #KidneyTransplant #KidneyCancer #KidneyStone #Urolithiasis #Endourology #Laparoscopy #UrologicOncology #Neurourology #PediatricUrology #Andrology #ReconstructiveUrology #Urogynecology #InterstitialCystitis #Vasectomy #VasectomyReversal #RoboticUrology #Peertechz #PeertechzPublications #OpenAccess #ScientificJournals #PeerReviewedJournals #OpenAccessPublishers #RenovascularDisease #Prostatitis #ProstateCancer #RetrogradePyelogram #RetrogradeUreteral #TesticularCancer

☝️November is Bladder Health Month. Did you know that: 💡 Each year, millions of men and women struggle with symptoms related to bladder conditions, but these symptoms are often overlooked. 💡 Bladder issues are such an embarrassing topic for some people that they don't even mention them to their doctor. 💡 Bladder cancer is the 4th most common cancer in men and the 8th most common in women. Early detection can lead to successful diagnosis and treatment. Stay safe and talk to your doctor. 💡 More than 33 million Americans have overactive bladder and an estimated 1- 4 million men and 3-8 million women have symptoms of Interstitial Cystitis/Bladder Pain Syndrome. 💡 Bladder leakage is not a normal part of aging and can be treated. There are multiple surgical options, but also non-invasive treatments, such as Peroneal eTNM® neuromodulation. Always consult your doctor who can recommend the most suitable treatment.
