The Digital Identity Revolution has made it to the UK! Organisations passionate about digital identities have urged the new government to recommit to increasing digital verification use in the UK. 📄 Shortly before the recent general election, they published an open letter to all political parties, urging the next government to implement a plan for legislation introducing a Digital Identity and Attributes Trust Framework. “There is a mature and market-ready technology already offering real solutions to these challenges. Digital identity technology provides a secure method for individuals to verify their identity and authenticate themselves both in the physical and online worlds." 🌍 Learning Vault, as a global provider of OB3-compliant #digitalcredentialing technology, has been engaged and consulting on similar government initiatives in Australia for years. 📢 TECHNICAL STANDARDS FOR EU DIGITAL IDENTITY WALLETS ADOPTED Today, 28 November 2024, the European Commission has adopted a set of rules defining the core functionalities and certification standards for the European Digital Identity (#eID) Wallets. These rules are a critical milestone under the European Digital Identity Framework, with Member States expected to release interoperable wallets by the end of 2026.   🔧 UNIFORM FUNCTIONALITY AND SECURITY Four implementing regulations establish uniform standards and technical specifications to ensure the functionality, reliability, and security of the wallets across all EU countries. Key features include: ✔ 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗮 𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝘁𝘀: standards enabling seamless cross-border use of digital documents. ✔ 𝗣𝗿𝗶𝘃𝗮𝗰𝘆 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘁𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: data stored locally with full user control, ensuring no tracking or profiling. ✔ 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗽𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗰𝘆 𝘁𝗼𝗼𝗹𝘀: a built-in privacy dashboard allows users to monitor how and with whom their data is shared. These measures aim to harmonize development while safeguarding user #privacy and personal data.   🔒 CERTIFICATION FRAMEWORK A fifth regulation introduces certification procedures to verify that #eID #wallets meet robust security and privacy standards. This ensures that all certified wallets are trustworthy and compliant with EU regulations.   📅 NEXT STEPS FOR THE PUBBLICATION OF IMPLEMENTING ACTS The implementing regulations will be published in the EU's Official Journal and 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝘁𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝗲𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝟮𝟬 𝗱𝗮𝘆𝘀 𝗮𝗳𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗶𝗿 𝗽𝘂𝗯𝗹𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻.
