Disclaimer: This video is NOT of Animal Assissted Therapy. Yep, Animal Assissted Therapy (AAP) is a form of therapy. You probably won't find Alpacas, Kangaroos, Koalas and Giraffes in the therapy setting (unless they do that in Australia 😄) but Dogs, Cats, Horses, Rabbits are often involved, and sometimes even farm animals can be involved (so maybe there's a chance for Alpacas ❣️). AAP can be conducted in private practice setups, hospitals, and residential treatment centers. The environment is tailored to ensure the safety of the clients as well as the animals. AAP is often integrated with traditional therapeutic modalities such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) to enhance and complement the therapy process. Research suggests that inclusion of animals can help in reducing stress levels, increase levels of oxytocin and endorphins (chemicals associated with positive feelings) in the brain. Professionals often need to undergo training and certification to ensure that they ethically incorporate animals in the therapy setting and customise the approach to the unique needs of the client. This form of therapy can be quite helpful for individuals who find comfort in animals and experience joy in being around them. Long-term hospital stays might have a negative psychosocial impact on patients but one way to positively activate hospitalized patients is to introduce animal-assisted therapy or visitation animals. A statistically significant relationship in a research study was seen between the success rate for scores on the Likert scale and the chosen form of therapy. The experimental group that interacted with the dog showed more positive changes in general mood than the control group who had no dog to interact with. https://lnkd.in/gx2Rtw-z #hospital #animalassistedtherapy
