The new Unichiller CO2 is another milestone in environmentally friendly refrigeration technology at Huber. The new circulation cooler works with CO2 as a refrigerant. CO2 or carbon dioxide (also known as R744) is a natural component of the air and has been used in refrigeration technology since the 19th century. CO2 is a colorless gas that liquefies under pressure. It has no ozone depletion potential (ODP = 0) and, with a GWP = 1, has a negligible global warming potential.   For example, if 1 kg of CO2 escapes into the atmosphere through a leak in the refrigeration circuit, this is 3780 times less harmful than the common refrigerant R404A. In addition, CO2 is a so-called natural refrigerant that occurs in very large quantities in nature, meaning it does not have to be produced with great energy expenditure. In addition, CO2 has other advantages as a refrigerant; it is non-flammable, non-toxic and chemically inactive.   The new Unichiller CO2 is therefore a 100% environmentally friendly alternative to cooling devices with conventional synthetic refrigerants.
