Schools and trusts could see significant increases in operational capacity by adopting operational excellence approaches increasingly seen in the commercial world and other parts of the public sector. That’s according to a new in-depth report commissioned by the Institute of School Business Leadership (ISBL), supported by the Association of School Business Officials (ASBO) International. The research reveals that just 20% of trusts have currently adopted the ‘OpEx’ approach. This creates a “game-changing opportunity for the vast majority of trusts and the wider sector” says ISBL CEO Stephen Morales. “OpEx is the natural next step in the sector’s improvement journey,” he added. “At its basic level, OpEx is about reflecting on what we do and asking ourselves the question: are there incremental improvements that can be made? OpEx is a major opportunity to improve if schools and trusts accept that there is an improvement journey to go on,” he said. The report is published on Thursday 3 Oct. Excited to speak today at the 2024 NEGAP - The New England Association for Graduate Enrollment Management Fall Conference on Forging Personal Excellence in Graduate Enrollment Management (GEM)! GEM professionals know that resilience and grit aren’t just words; they’re necessities. In our field, we deal with the unexpected daily—whether it’s a budget constraint, a tough enrollment target, or supporting a student going through a crisis. Each of these moments is an opportunity to bring personal excellence to the table, and to turn stress into strength. Practicing resilience means we listen deeply even on our busiest days, we problem-solve with creativity, and we keep our commitments to students, to colleagues, and to ourselves. Grit is choosing to stay focused, even when things don’t go our way, and showing up with energy and optimism. This drive not only elevates my work; it shows those around us what’s possible when we don’t give up. I want to challenge anyone reading this post to forge a culture of personal excellence, day by day. Together, we can inspire our teams, our students, and even ourselves. Share examples of when you had to dig deep and lead in the face of insurmountable odds - How DID you overcome it? What feelings did you get afterwards?! #NEGAP2024 #GritAndGrace #HigherEdExcellence #LeadWithResilience #PersonalExcellence
