The quiz and gameshow industry is one of the UK's most innovative TV sectors, one you can definitely make the argument we lead the world in. And yet, The Answer Run comes out today and its basically the first new pure quiz show in about six months. https://lnkd.in/ezXgjwCu What I want to know is, what is the big plan? How are we going to move through this moment?

Yesterday's post, although meant as a bit of light-hearted fun following the bank holiday weekend, sent me down a rabbit hole of research... After snooping about for a while on the web, it would seem that UK construction sick days present a bit of a complex picture: Reported absences: Officially, the numbers seem low. The Office for National Statistics (ONS) puts it at 1.4% in 2020 and 2.1% in 2021. (I could not find more up to date ONS data for 2022/2023). Compared to other European countries such as Sweden, where on average 11.4 sick days were taken in 2022, our figures seem remarkably low. High accident rate: Construction suffers the highest proportion of sick leave due to work injuries. Under-reporting: There's also evidence of under-reporting of sick days. And also worth noting, research suggests many workers go to work unwell, possibly due to pressure or self-employment. So, while headline figures might seem low, the reality might be more concerning. Figures vary from one source to the next but the Telegraph recently reported that a surge in sick days is to cost Britain £66bn by 2030 (Zurich UK). On average a business that employs upwards of 1,000 people is losing £2,000,000 alone in cost of sickness absence (Goodshape). Now I know most of us SME's in the Construction industry won't hit the lofty heights of 1000 employees but for those that do, particularly the Main Contractors and Tier 1 Contractors, that is a huge dent considering on average profit margin was only 2.72% for the top 100 Construction companies in 2023 (The Construction Index Ltd) I'm keen to know, how can we, as an industry tackle rising sickness absence? #constructionindustry #constructionnews #sickness #economy

Stop blending in and start standing out. Become the 'Purple Cow.' (like Seth Godin yells out ) To be remarkable you gotta break through the noise. A great example of this— Kanye West's ad from this year's Super Bowl. While others poured millions into slick productions… Kanye did something unique. Unexpected and unusual. He filmed the ad in his car. On his phone. No special effects. No fancy production. Not even good lighting. What happened next? $20 million in sales. He chose to be different. He chose to be noticed.
