Bashing an influencer marketer for their available budget is like picking up on a cashier for the store prices. They don't have any say in how budgets are allocated and spent, and especially in the early stage, they have to make do with whatever limited resources are available. Those big, shiny, fancy brands that pay 5 figures seemingly without blinking, that everyone wants to work with - STARTED THE SAME WAY. They also did barters, PR, feisty negotiation and well, everything in between. It takes 20 sec to be nice and send a template saying "thanks, we only do paid collabs at this time". I timed it. The reality is there will always be PLENTY of creators out there that do barters and gifted campaigns, and they will continue to do so...because they want to. Shocking, right? It doesn't affect the industry - on the contrary, it allows more brands than ever to tap into influencer marketing and turn their programs into a success so that...they can start paying and investing in creators. As I always say - there's room for everyone in this industry, whether some people like it or not. 😉

Why do we have the same brain??? Also complaining about marketers is quite literally biting the hand that feeds you. It baffles the mind that so many managers publicly ridicule brand budgets. Why would I ever work with the manager or talent? There’s always a replacement.

I would also say, even if it sounds self-serving, that being kind pays dividends. People change companies all the time and they will hold a grudge against mean representatives. That marketer could end up at a company with a massive budget someday.

I agree! Kindness is everything! No need to be nasty to brands offering low pay/ free product. I think my only issue comes when they ask for things like perpetuity and it’s expected to be accepted

Louder for the people in the back! Especially since the person likely receiving their snark is junior team member who really has no say in the budget they've been handed. Kind, clear communication is always the way to go!

Good point there, Andreea. Also those brands paying creators well today definitely did start somewhere!

But can we respond: "I am so sorry, message received! I will allocate $0 to you and any of your creators, in perpetuity".

Influencers are some of the most insanely entitled people you'll ever meet (I say this as someone who is an "influencer"). I will never, ever, EVER take it for granted that brands are willing to pay me thousands of dollars for a YouTube integration. That doesn't mean I'll say yes to every deal! But you'll never catch me being an a-hole to someone who reaches out to me about working together.

Absolutely agreed. However if your budget is $50-$100 stop reaching out to macro creators. Just stop lol it feels like a slap in the face
