Why Bi-Injection Molding Simulation? Bi-Injection Molding is one variant of multiple-component molding process. It is generally applied to two-colored plastics, such as automotive lamps, mobile casting, or toothbrush. In the process, two plastic materials are injected into one mold cavity via two independent gates. The plastic flows will meet in the cavity and result in a variety of configuration. Study on the Effect of Process Parameters and Mold Structure on the “Whiten Spot” on ASA Products Surface The uneven colored white spot often appears nearby the gate in injection molding of automotive parts, which affects the appearance of the product. The occurrence of the white spot is related to the injection parameters and mold structure. Considering 3D Barrel Compression in Injection Molding simulation To compare injection molding and simulation results, the most critical procedure is to make the input data in the simulation consistent with the real molding conditions, in which the machine movement modeling is the most important issue. In the traditional simulation, the screw movement is simply transferred into the speed and pressure imposed on the melt, which has oversimplified the real melt flow behaviors. It does not fully consider the high temperature and obvious changes in compressibility (including viscosity and PvT) inside the screw. PEGATRON Improved the Warpage of a Tablet Base Case Cover by 92% In order to create lighter, slimmer parts, PEGATRON engineers were tasked to reduce the thickness of a tablet bottom base case cover from 1.5mm to 1mm and add a metal insert part, 0.5mm thickness, to the original design. Thin-wall molding can be challenging and create many problems such as filling imbalances and structural integrity. The development of aesthetic defects like sink marks in 2K-ICM is governed by a complex interplay of several factors. Unignorable Simulation of Barrels and Nozzles Molding simulation accuracy is highly dependent on the input conditions. In simulations, normally only the behaviors inside the mold cavity are analyzed without the consideration of the injection unit. In the injection process, the material is squeezed by the screw, and then flows by the barrel, nozzle, and eventually enters the cavity. The whole process used to be simplified as the ideal flow rate at the inlet. However, this approach ignores the material property changes that occurred inside the barrel and nozzle, which will affect the reality of flow rate, temperature, and viscosity at the inlet. Thus, manufacturing condition differences between simulation and reality initially exist. Comprehensive MCM Simulation Considering the Previous Shot’s Effects The multi-component molding (MCM) technology can efficiently integrate more than two separate plastic parts and is widely applied in the industry. Through CAE analysis, manufacturers can simulate product quality in advance. However, if we only consider the processing of the second shot, the product quality and design optimization cannot be ensured. Due to the effects of multiple injections and numerous materials, the part insert status at the end of the first shot will affect the part warpage behaviors in the second shot.
