I wish that I had gotten a better pic of this situation, but you know, random people are sometimes weirded out by you taking shots of their garbage at a baseball game. Anywho, this was at a recent Colorado Rockies game and every time we attend, I always get a kick out of observing what everyone is drinking.
Especially bc the crowd is diverse and there are so many options for beverages at the ballpark. Kudos to the Rockies for that (and since the team is kind of stinky this year, there's lots of imbibing going on).
These people down the row from me knocked out a VooDoo Ranger, some flavors of White Claw, a hard Topo Chico, a couple of Coors Originals, a few Blue Moons, some random cocktails and finally a Surfside (that's new). This was across the whole row BTW, not just the people on the end.
I'm a hard believer that while many are drinking less to be more health conscious, the folks that are still drinking are just drinking differently these days. Wise for retailers to notice and offer up more diverse product offerings (including GF and NA options, saw plenty of those too).

Some interesting echoes of Sir John Hegarty's MAD//FEST LONDON talk yesterday in Sir Martin Sorrell's talk today. Asked what he’d recommend to youngsters joining the industry Sir Martin said learn Chinese, Spanish and coding – not just because they’re useful skills, but because it’ll exercise your brain in a way that we don’t do enough of now.
Whilst Sir Martin Sorrell also talked about trying tech fast, because it will change faster than you think, Rory Sutherland talked about what slow AI might look like. Sometimes we need to take time to do things, we need to put in the right amount of effort to achieve what we need to. Being more efficient can be easy to achieve, being more effective is often much harder.
Thanks MAD//FEST – lots of great thinking to make the little grey cells fire up – now to slowly digest and think about the learnings to take forward.
We’re saving the best to last at MAD//Fest! Hello Day 3 ☀️

Kansas City’s first Black Feast Week kicked off this week. In the coming days, I’m going to have some tough decisions to make about lunch or dinner plans.
Through Oct. 14, more than a dozen Black-owned restaurants will band together to help support Willa’s Books and Vinyl, the city’s longest standing Black-owned bookstore. Not only is it vital to support locally-owned small businesses — we must ensure this venerable store remains a part of our community. Independent bookstores, especially Black-owned ones, are extremely important to the culture here.
Sixteen restaurants will take part. The fare ranges from delicious vegan options to some of the tastiest fried foods in the city. Also on tap: Ethiopian and soul food dishes, as well as several unique loaded baked potato options from TC’s Fully Loaded food truck. Kansas City’s first Black-owned brewery, Vine Street Brewing Co., is offering deals on beer flights.

Looking forward to Tuesday night's Scooter's Coffee Frisco Bowl between The University of Memphis Tigers and West Virginia University Mountaineers.
Get ready for tonight's game with the pregame press conference featuring both teams!
#SpeakingTip: I've emceed this presser for years and, each time, I am meeting the head coaches, players and staff minutes before we meet the media. I've always found it incredibly helpful to cover what we're going to do in a five-minute run-of-show download before we go live.
This download encompasses:
-How we'll open the presser: introductions, house rules, etc.
-Who will sit where: this is all intentional...for the most part
-Will there be an opening statement? Usually yes.
-Name pronunciations. I've mangled more names than you can imagine.
-Any items off the table that we don't want to cover. Usually never an issue but you never know.
This is helpful for the presser participants walking into a new environment to understand how this thing will go.
We always ask for media to identify themselves. What's funny is that during the 2024 presser, Memphis head coach Ryan Silverfield had fun with a reporter (whom he knew) when he didn't identify himself. Coach Silverfield asked the reporter to do so. It was a fun, lighthearted moment. I think it's great to have funny, lighthearted moments in media events when appropriate. It showcases participants' personalities.
As for why we ask media to identify themselves: when you stream a press conference, it's helpful for the viewers to understand who is asking the question.

We noticed the same issue in the industry, so we created an industry-specific key dates guide to help social media managers and business owners find relevant dates to post about. No more tacos over here! 🌮
Check out the guide here > https://lnkd.in/e54tJ_-R
There’s only one reason to be posting about International Taco Day.
And that’s because you’re selling tacos.
The main reasons why businesses post on social media about awareness days is because they either can’t think of what else to post, or they are virtue-signalling their support of a cause without actually supporting the cause.
So before you take that big list of Awareness and Fun Days that some self-appointed social media guru threw together on Canva, think about whether it’s relevant for you to be posting about International Ice Cream Day, or National Cocker Spaniel Day. Or whatever awareness day is coming up next week.
Clarity on who you are, what you do and who it’s for along with a consistency of delivery might not be as fun as a cute dog in a sombrero with a taco in it’s paws.
But it’s what brings business - unless of course, you’re a Mexican restaurant.
