I’m excited to share FocalPoint’s vision for 2054, which our lead investor Molten Ventures has helped bring to life in this powerful video. As our devices become more powerful, the demand for higher levels of accuracy, reliability, and security in location-based services continues to grow. The economic benefits of GPS to the UK are significant with contributions of £13.6 billion per year - a figure that has more than doubled since 2017.  In the United States, it is estimated that this economic benefit is $1.4 trillion over the same timeframe. This is largely driven by the demand for greater convenience, accuracy and safety of our smartphones, smart cars and smart wearables. However, as our cities become more built up, our GPS receivers will be limited by 21st century technology. A simple upgrade to the way GPS receivers interpret satellite signals will mean our businesses, services and consumers will place extra trust in their location based services and safety-of-life applications. Recently, Peter Ashley and Ricki Logan from Applied Information were featured in Traffic Technology International (TTi) after having explored Waymo's autonomous #robotaxi service at the ITS America's Conference & Expo. They encountered firsthand challenges with GPS positioning accuracy in urban environments due to obstacles like buildings, trees, and radio frequency interference. If you’ve ever used sat nav you’ll know that the position it calculates doesn’t always match up with the vehicle’s real position, the same be true with the GPS location on your phone which in this situation, meant that at the start of the journey they couldn't actually unlock the vehicle.  GPS accuracy is a problem we’ve been working on for years with Supercorrelation technology, which is designed to overcome the everyday navigational challenges we encounter whilst driving our cars or using our mobile phones in urban environments by removing several of the engineering barriers to achieving positioning reliability.  For the automotive industry, S-GNSS Auto solves these accuracy problems whilst easing the burden on other vehicle sensors, to the integrity of system performance. It provides up to 10x better accuracy for ADAS whilst unlocking new capabilities and driver benefits.
