How can we get more young people excited to take science subjects at school, to then do science & technology degrees, to then be ready to hire into the amazing agritech sector? I had the opportunity to talk with 50 secondary school science teachers at the ChemEd-BioLive Conference and ask this question. Not surprisingly, there is no one answer! But what I did learn was: *Kids are only 9,10,11 years old when they are moving towards science subjects or not. A time when their parents have a strong influence on their thinking and world-view. *If you put the word "ag" in the subject most leap to the assumption it is manual, low level - for the non-academic student. **Most importantly - you can't be what you can't see. As a sector we need to get into schools, in front of young people, sharing our stories in places they spend time. Absolutely a challenge! But one we have to rise to if we want to attract the talent our sector needs. Thanks to Phil Kendon for the invitation, Science teacher at Wellington College who also happens to be my husband's cousin's husband (- don't you love how connected we are in New Zealand 😁 )

ACER India is helping expand student thinking and deeper learning, through the Sri Aurobindo Society's Auro Project-Based Learning Initiative (Auro PBLI). Research shows that integrating disciplines enables students to transfer their knowledge and skills more effectively to new situations, promoting deeper learning and understanding. Auro PBLI resources, which are expected to be used by more than 5 million students per year for 4 years, include project-based lessons like this one for use by grade 5 teachers. ‘How animals find their food’ involves students analysing how animals adapt to their environments and the relationships they have with other organisms in different ecosystems by engaging in various activities. *World Science Day with Matogbun Community High School* Few days ago, I had the privilege of spending World Science Day with the incredible learners of *Matogbun Community High School*. It was a day filled with curiosity, inspiration, and a deep belief in the power of science to change lives. Standing before these bright young minds, I shared not just the wonders of science but also a message close to my heart: "your dreams are valid, and your potential is limitless. Why Science Matters Science is more than equations or experiments—it’s a tool to solve real-world problems, a gateway to endless possibilities. Together, we explored how science fuels innovation and how their unique ideas can shape the future. 💡 Encouragement for Tomorrow’s Innovators I reminded them that greatness isn’t about where you start but how determined you are to keep going. We talked about resilience, staying curious, and the importance of taking small steps toward big dreams. Their energy, questions, and enthusiasm left me inspired and hopeful. 💖 A Day to Remember The smiles, the spark in their eyes, and their eagerness to learn reinforced why I’m passionate about education and empowerment. Days like this remind me that every word of encouragement, every shared story, can plant a seed of confidence in the hearts of our future scientists, innovators, and leaders. To everyone reading this, let’s continue to support and inspire the next generation. The world needs their brilliance. #WorldScienceDay #EducationForAll #Inspiration #FutureInnovators #EmpowermentThroughScience #TeachforNigeria Teach For Nigeria Teach For All

Hi LinkedIn! 👋 I’m Jesutofunmi Jael—call me JayJay for short 😁. I’m currently a proud student of Food Science and Technology at the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA). If you know FUTA, then you know it’s a unique experience! 👌 Great Futarian, Great! 🔗A Little Backstory: Before I started university, I had no clue what I truly wanted to study. I loved so many things—computers, cooking, music—you name it. But when it came to choosing a course, I was lost. 🤔 My dad gave me a list of courses suitable for science students, and that’s when the real dilemma began. It boiled down to Computer Engineering and Food Science. Honestly, I thought Food Science would be the easier choice since I was trying to dodge as much math as possible. 😂 But little did I know... Why FUTA? When I started researching the best places to study Food Science, my options narrowed to the Federal University of Technology, Owerri, and FUTA. My mom quickly vetoed Owerri—too far from home in the Southwest—so FUTA it was! ✈️ 🔗Then the unexpected reality; I got into the program thinking it’d be more about cooking and less about calculations. Surprise, surprise! It turned out to be closer to an engineering course than I had ever imagined. Food packaging, processing, and technology involved way more math and technical skills than I anticipated. 📚✏️ But you know what? I wouldn’t trade it for anything. The deeper I dove in, from 100-level to 300-level, the more I discovered the true essence of this field. It’s my first time posting on LinkedIn, and I’m excited to be here! 🙌 I’m looking forward to connecting with people who share a passion for food, technology, and everything in between. I hope to learn, share my journey, and grow alongside this amazing community. If you’ve got any tips for a food tech student—or if you’re just curious about the field—drop a comment or send me a connection request! Let’s make the most of this platform together. 🚀 #FUTA #StudentLife #FoodScienceandtechnology #Engineering #NewBeginnings #LearningJourney #LinkedInFirstPost

In the past years I have been involved in different initiatives aimed at improving the #quality of #research #data. I have learned a lot (and I am still learning a lot!) while teaching to PhD students about Good Research Practice (GRP) and exchanging with colleagues on best practices in animal experimentation/behavior. One of the things that I cherish the most is this mind map I created as an introduction to scientific #integrity and reproducibility. The map shows how the scientific process is shaped by professional standards and moral values (life!). I see this as some kind of "mandala" that I go back to when feeling lost and overwhelmed by the scientific process: - How do we endure stressful deadlines without taking shortcuts? - Are we allowed to take the time to do things the way they are meant to? - What is my circle of influence on the scientific process? - How can I better help others understand the importance of GRP? - How can I help people to "make the time" to integrate GRP in their daily work? Luckily times are changing and we are fostering a new generation of young researchers much more knowledgeable about GRP and I see plenty of positive changes at the FBM UNIL - Faculté de biologie et de médecine de l'Université de Lausanne I should keep this mind-map in my pocket and show it to every researcher, PhD student who is stressed out about deadlines. Take your time, take in this web of interrelated factor, there is you in the middle! you'll find yourself in there! Hold tight to your values :D DISCLAIMER: this mind-map reflects my own view of the world, it may not match yours - and that's OK! Also it is a simplification of very deep concepts: you won't find everything written in there, but it is a good start to let our brains go wild on the topic!
