Thirty seven years ago, on September 16th 1987, government representatives from all over the world gathered in Montreal Canada to agree on an international treaty designed to restore the ozone layer—This treaty, the Montreal Protocol would go on to be hailed as one of the most successful examples of global environmental conservation efforts. What is the ozone layer? The ozone layer is a thin, yet crucial, layer in Earth’s stratosphere that acts as a protective barrier, absorbing harmful ultraviolet (UV) rays from the sun. This shield works by filtering out 97-99% of the sun’s damaging UV-B and UV-C radiation, allowing only the necessary sunlight to reach Earth, keeping our ecosystems and human health in balance. Without it, life on Earth would be at risk of increased UV exposure, leading to serious health and environmental impacts. Human activities, particularly the use of chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) and Hydrochlorofluorocarbons (HCFCs) in refrigeration and aerosols, began depleting the ozone layer in the 20th century. Since the signing of the landmark Montreal treaty, the ozone layer is well on its way to recovery with the UN estimating that it is expected to return to pre-1980 levels by the middle of this century. On World Ozone Day, we celebrate the achievements of international cooperation in saving our planet’s silent shield. It’s a reminder that when we act together, we can heal the planet and safeguard our future. #WorldOzoneDay #SaveTheOzone #EnvironmentalSuccess #SustainableFuture #Sustainability

Preserving Our Ozone, Protecting Our Planet: International Day for the Preservation of the Ozone Layer. Today, as the world observes the International Day for the Preservation of the Ozone Layer, Pecan Energies reaffirms its unwavering commitment to safeguarding our environment. The ozone layer, which reduces harmful ultraviolet (UV) radiation reaching Earth by approximately 99%, plays a critical role in protecting life. Without it, increased UV exposure would significantly heighten the risks of skin cancer, cataracts, and harm to ecosystems, including marine life. It is our collective responsibility to ensure its preservation. The United Nations-backed Scientific Assessment of Ozone Depletion report confirms the phase-out of nearly 99% of banned ozone-depleting substances. However, the recovery of the ozone layer remains fragile, with projections indicating full restoration over Antarctica by 2066, provided we continue our efforts. At Pecan Energies, we recognize that sustainable practices are not only a corporate responsibility but a moral obligation. In every aspect of our business operations, we remain focused on minimizing environmental impact, adhering to international standards, and continuously seeking innovative, efficient solutions that respect the planet's natural balance. We promote responsible resource management and foster a culture of environmental awareness across all our work teams. By doing so, we actively contribute to a future where environmental integrity is at the heart of everything we do. As we mark this important day, it serves as a powerful reminder of the actions we can take daily to protect our ozone layer and, ultimately, our planet. #EnvironmentalStewardship #OzoneLayerProtection #Sustainability #PecanEnergies

With World Ozone Day this week, Greenspace is taking the time to reflect on our own environmental impacts while celebrating the world success of the minimizing the ozone hole. 1974- Mario Molina and F. Sherry Rowland publish that chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) negatively affect the stratosphere, calling the safety of CFCs in question 1984- Jonathan Shanklin, Joe Farman, and Brian Gardiner published research findings suggesting the use of CFCs were behind the growing ozone hole above Antarctica, further confirming the work of Molina and Rowland. 1995- CFCs 100% phased out of use. The Montreal Protocol continues to work on phasing out other substances harmful to the Ozone layer. 2022- The Ozone hole still exists, but there is undeniable evidence that it is starting to fully disappear. Already existing on an annual cycle, appearing and reappearing over summer. The Montreal Protocol's success is considered a driving force behind this international environmental cooperation to tackle the Ozone hole. 2029- The year the Copenhagen Amendment to the Montreal Protocol estimates to have HCFCs completely phased out of use.
